Odd Vibration 10-30/40 mph Transmission?

Good evening all. I developed an odd vibration this after noon after some highway driving and a stop at the grocery store ,,,,,,,it came. It is light and throb by and sort of rotational. You can power through it by apply the accelerator. It goes away when you remove throttle. I have. To changed my tranny fluid in .....let's says a while. I plan on doing a fluid change tomorrow and cleaning the filter. The transmission has 387k to date, I forget the symptoms of a failing transmission or torque converter. I have switched the ECT on hoping for a difference but tomorrow mornings commute will tell.

Sounds like U-joints, although they usually make noise at a higher speed when they go bad.

Vibration update, while I initially though transmission I am not so sure now that it is the culprit.
The vibration is gas only, when you let off it smooths out.
The vibration is not as noticeable with O/D off.
The vibration is really f?!$ing annoying.
While I was changing trans fluid, T-Case fluid, and Rear diff fluid, unnoticed the rear shaft could be moved 2-3mm in its normal rotational direction. Should have paid closer attention to that.
The vibrations starts at about 10 mph and stays all the way up to highway speeds.
The vibration was worse today than yesterday.
The transmission does not seem to care about the vibration, the rpm range is normal for the speed traveling and for the acceleration. Meaning it is not slipping or compensating.
I want to shoot the vibration in the face, or at the very least make it non existent.

After searching I think Gangsters assumption might be correct about the u-joint.

The rear shaft is a Tom Woods, so I will contact them this morning and ask what type and size u-joint I am using. Pretty sure I deleted the double cardan when I got this shaft, so I can rule that out.

Hi , I am facing exactly same vibration like yours and I have got suggestions on changing transmission fluid, using dr. shudder fixx etc. But when I inspected my transmission fluid it looks pure pink/red as it should be. I dont see any variation in rpms while driving.

So, I wanted to know if you were able to figure out the root cause of your vibration? Were you able to fix it?

I have never heard of changing trans fluid to eliminate driveline vibrations.


Check your u-joints by removing the shaft and feeling for resistance in the caps.

Sorry for responding late. My problem still persist and is bugging me. I got under the truck to inspect but everything seems to be covered with skid plates or crash guards. I do not have necessary tools or jacks to lift and inspect it.
How much expense am I looking at if I ask mechanics to look into it and replace u joints if he confirms that is the issue? Its a RWD model.

I also find it weird that this problem (vibration) is more observable when engine is cold and have not reached optimal temperature. I drive mostly in cities only and it frustrates me.
