Odometer reset itself to 0

05 with 195k on it, had it parked over night and when I got in this morning and turned it on odometer said 0.
Annoyed more than anything, haven't driven it yet I parked it right away but any ideas of what happened?
Another thing I noticed is that the trip meter buttons wouldn't work/wouldn't switch the display to the trips.

Searched around and saw it happen to a couple other people...didn't look like there's a fix?

Lol I know right

Update: the whole gauge cluster is not working now. Speedo, tach, fuel and coolant. All small lights are working the gear, check and the rest
 
It happens to a few 4runners. Dont know why. I read that there is a company who will rebuild your cluster and put the miles back on it that it had, or you can buy a used one that matched your original miles.

Really your only options from what I have seen.

I thought that most modern cars don’t store the mileage in the cluster itself. The miles are stored in the ECM then just displayed in the cluster, so if you swap clusters, the correct mileage, should in theory be displayed. That is how it is with other cars I’ve worked with anyway.

May be true on modern cars. But 05 apparently is not modern. 03-09 store the mileage on the cluster.

Check out this thread. Lots of 05s with this issue. Wonder if there was a bad batch of clusters that year.

Weird thing about this too is that the cluster went out in my 80 series LC like a week before

Guess i've got to start looking for a cluster...
 
Picked up a refurbished cluster from taninelectronix on Ebay.

Installed and all is well, might send old one back for them to check out and see what was wrong with it.
 
05 should be plenty modern enough to not store mileage in the cluster. I can tell you starting in 1996 Jeep stored mileage in the BCM, not the cluster. OBDII was the cause for this. Is Toyota really that far behind the times?

I think so, they told me to send them the previous mileage so they could program the new one (but it seemed like an automated email so they might just ask for it on all orders).

Honestly I don't remember the exact mileage because it suddenly went out, told them 195k and new one showed like 195,350 so it might of been stored?
Either way it's probably within 500 miles
