OEM Fog Lights in Facia

My 2002 SR5 came without the factory installed fog lights which is a mystery to me as it has leather interior. Anyway, I'd like to get some lights to fill the holes in the facia to give the vehicle a more complete look and to add a little auxiliary lighting for those dark roads.

I've found the ones at Performance Products that claim to just bolt right in. My SR5 has wiring run up to the front bumper which I believe are fog light wires, with plugs on the ends. There's one on each side tied up out of the way.

Will these lights in fact bolt right in and is there any switch required or do they run off the factory lighting system using the stock looms?

I have a 2000 SR5 with the same prewired setup for them and the light kit from PP is for the SR5 model since they are prewired.

I had been seeing your posts. Have you tried plugging up the lights to see if they automatically come on with low beams?

I've seen mods to allow them to work with high beams as well which seems to make more sense to me.

Not yet we are installing them next Saturday. I am goin to wire them so that they work with High and Low as I want them versus just low beams. I ordered a factory Toyota Fog Light switch to go in the knock-out panel instead of using the one that comes with the lights. The one that comes with it is fine but it doesnt light up. The install instructions are pretty good and if you call some1 from PP will fax the instructions to you before you buy them which is what I had done.

Ok, the fact that they require a seperate switch answers my question. I thought maybe the factory wiring in place would work without an additional dash switch.

You can buy another switch for the column with the fog light setting on it to work and then bypass the alternate switch but finidng one is costly.

I did some poking around under the dash this morning in preparation for this mod. What I found was a black plug tucked away close to the dash dimmer knob wires. It's like a 12 prong female plug, but only 4 prongs are used. I presume this is the stock fog light connector. I noticed one of the 4 wires running to this blug was white with a black stripe, which matches the fog light connectors on at the front facia on my 2002 SR5.

Now the challenge is finding a stock Toyota switch that is plug and play for this connector. Anyone have a source for that? The ones posted on this site thus far will not be plug and play and will require cutting this stock black connector off the stock wires which I'd rather not do.

I didn't take a picture and I've already put the dash back together. It's VERY simple to find though. Just remove the 4 10mm bolts on the driver's side dash under the steering column. Look next to the dash dimmer knob and you'll see it.

I do have a set that will do just want you want. Comes with it's own custom brackets made to fit 99-02 front bumpers. The coolest thing is, you don't need to run ANY wires through the firewall, and the kit comes with two wireless remotes.

Thought I'd post an update.

I got the Performance Products Hella fog lamps and they are in fact the exact same ones that come from Toyota.

Rather than do any splicing of wires to install the switch that was included with the kit, I purchased a factory head light switch (called a dimmer switch) that included the fog light collar. The cost was about $60 shipped, but made the entire fog light install plug and play. The new dimmer switch took all of 10 minutes to install.

I also did the re-wiring to allow the fog lights to work with the parking lamps as well as the high beams.

Since I used a factory dimmer switch to control the fog lamps, I was able to use the switch included in the fog light kit as a DRL switch, and did that mod at the same time.

I like things to look absolutely factory, so I did the more involved modification of taking the engine bay fuse box out and re-wiring the under side of that. I doubt even a toyota tech could tell this mod wasn't from the factory without some digging.

Both mods were pretty simple to do. I soldered all the connections and used plenty of electrical tape and heat shrink for protection.

You did the exact same thing that I want to do on my 02 Runner. I already got the factory fog lights, got them used for a great deal.

I got one question though. Where did you get the "headlight switch" from? Did you buy it straight from Toyota?
