OEM Hood Protector Installation

I recently picked up a 01 T4R and got a OEM hood protector to put on it. The hood protector comes with four rubber cones that attach to the hood to prevent the deflector from rubbling on the paint. I would like to be able to remove the protector on occasion, and don't really like the idea of 4 rubber cones sticking up like horns (as well as the notion of sticking them to paint).

This may seem a strange question, but has anyone tried installing the rubber cones to the underside of the hood protector instead of attaching them to the hood? Has anyone just not used the cones? What were the results? Any damage to the shield or paint?

W/O the bump stops you'll rub on the paint. I actually went with a AVS ONE that stands away from the hood and came with but didn't require the bumpstops and it's very easy to clean behind.

I'll post up a good close up tomorrow so you can see even with good clearance behind the guard it still hugs the hoodline nicely. A good alternative if the OEM is tooc lose for your comfort.

Cardomain has a lund bug deflector/ hood protector. That's the one I got and I love it. Couldn't be happier.

Well, I went ahead and intalled the OEM protector, but I attached the bump stops to the shield instead of the hood. I'll have to watch to see if the bump stops end up hurting the paint through vibration (or they stay attached to the shield). If so, I'll probably go with an aftermarket protector. I had a 400 mile trip today and proferred to go with what I had for the time being. Everything went well during the trip (i.e. the bump stops stayed put).

i would imagine if you were to make it so that the stops were either not in contact all the time (and kept the areas, and the tips clean) then it wouldnt harm the paint much,
or,
if you were to make it so they are constantly touching and not "rubbing" alot, since they would already have a more constant pressure applied..

How about some easily removed glue?

I just purchased a 97 with a deflector and one of the 4 rubber bumpers left on the hood. I removed the shield and the rubber bumpers (goo gone) worked real well and there is no damage to the paint. I would be hesitant about putting the bumppers on the shield - this would cause rubbing on the paint which would be worse than removing a little glue when needed.
Does anyone know where I can get some more of the rubber pads?
