i hear you - for a lot of 4th gens these days, tough to justify something like that when they go for 30% of vehicle cost, not to mention they put more wear on your front end. unless i was wheeling weekly i cant justify it, and i only get out once a month or so. this is why i have entertained the idea of a hidden winch kit - even those run $500 without the winch.

You can do a lot of things offroad with an OEM front bumper; stock bumper clearance isn't that bad once you add a lift and tires.

What do you mean by "a lot of things"... like go bowling or buy groceries? You can't do any wheeling with a stock front bumper-- The entire thing will get ripped off on the first 3' rock you try to back up over. And the rear bumper as well, I only got a new rear bumper because the entire stock rear bumper was torn off my truck on the Fordyce trail on the first day. I suppose if you don't care about the entire body of the truck being destroyed when you wheel then you don't really need anything.

My experience has been different that yours, you must wheel a lot harder than me.
If you didn't want to pay $1k plus but needed clearance then you can trim the OEM bumper. It would be pretty difficult to tear it off at that point.
When I had my stock bumper, I've bumped trees at a good speed trying to do a hill climb (didn't leave a mark). I've gotten some nice rock rash backing over a large rock that also cracked the lower fog light. I never once worried about it ripping off though.
I'm not sure but I think that my front Demello bumper was around 900-950. Making a tube bumper for the front that wrapped around the front bumper may be another option and would cost a lot less than replacing the whole front bumper and offer some protection.
Do you happen to have a link to any of those or a brand name to search for? I didn't even think about looking for something like this ^^^^^^^

Key word in this thread...or name...being "Fordyce". Enough said. Pretty sure a majority of guys around this forum aren't doing Fordyce type trails. But yes, that would rip front and rears off. I want a rear with C4 swing outs and CBI bumper. HAHA

Single swingouts are already 1 step too many. 2 isn't much worse. If you use gas shocks to support the arms and proper stops I imagine they open themselves once pushed.
I know on the 4x4labs rear bumper the swing arm is tucked up close enough to the curved hatch you either need to curve the swing arm or go with dual arms.
As for the rear ladders, some people need to stand on their roof rack, either for a RTT or for strapping stuff down that you can't access from the sides. Also, tires can be muddy/slippery.

This. I rarely open my trunk anymore. Rear window or back seat whenever possible. Just too much hassle (and mine is only a single swingout) Granted, part of that is my swingout design needs a little modification to work better, but still.....
