Off Topic- Bicycles and 4Runners

I know the trails I ride sometimes intersect with the same trails OHV drive on.

I am going this weekend to Hurkey Creek/Idlwydle in California to hopefully use the 4runner and my mountain bike.

Anyone do this often?

Was somehow hoping to get this a thread of pictures of our bikes and 4runner...hahah

I'll start.

Love it! Great video Jada; I wish I had a GoPro for some of my life-altering (sometimes near-ending) rides. Just did the Kokopelli ride from Fruita (CO) to Moab (UT) a couple weeks ago... all 140 miles, 15k' elevation gain, and 3 days of it. :-D

I want to buy a tray style hitch rack, but am having a really hard time justifying how expensive they are! When I do, I'm thinking Kuat NV or Yakima Holdup...

Here's my rig all loaded up for 24 Hours of Moab last fall. The 906s I've got now ought to keep the @$$ off the ground from now on.

I'm designing a mount to hold one bike on my Yakama roof rack. Not your normal mount. I need something that will hold the bike almost horizontal and take the rigors of rock crawling.

There something awesome about the 4runner being loaded up with bikes!! Sounds like you had a challenging ride, I want to do Moab soon.

Regarding the bike racks- they are expensive however

1. Thule has lifetime warranty, theres no better company out there making racks.
2. If purchased from REI, thats another company that will fix or honor their sale FOREVER
3. Depending on how much you ride, it may be worth it. I ride weekly, so I wanted the convenience factor, plus I don't like the rack touching the frame of my bikes.
4. Check out the used gear sales at your local REI, they have used bike racks up to 80% off from time to time.

And no I don't work for REI, but it is the best company!

I have fork type mounts and both wheel on type mounts. What I will build will be a lay down style, probably fork mount with added mounts for the seat post and handlebars. It will lay down as far as it can without the peddals or bars hitting the roof. This will eliminate stress on the fork, lower CG and reduce being snagged on trees and rocks.

As far as inside the rig. Been there, done that. It still needs to be strapped down but then I have to take it out at nights to sleep. My wheeling concept is to be able to wheel, roll into camp and other than a clothes bag, I'm ready to climb in the back and sleep.

Ah Fullerton Loop

used to ride bidwell, chino hills and all the stuff around OC. Hurkey creek has a nice network of trails but its been along time since ive been there. You may get rained on huh? Keep the rubber side down.

My old 4runner new one will have t2 rack and for shuttle days marks on the back as well.

Hurkey creek has some big lines for big bikes project x and others, lots of drops and gap jumps out there.... tons of fun.....

2 yakima highrollers up top on yakima crossbars. With the 3 inch lift, sometimes I need to stand on a toolbox to get the bikes up there.

The rola hitch rack, I welded two yakima crossbars on to give me the option to mount more bike racks back there. Two yakima highrollers, and one frontloader are attached in this pick. Coolers or cargo can fit in between.

If cargo is more in demand than bikes...

Decided to add some conspicuity tape to the protruding tails.

I wired the hitch rack up with trailer lights as well to help with visibility. I relocate my license plate to the rack when blocked by cargo.

Old 4Runner pic, but heres my ride...
