Official 3rd Gen 4Runner Scooped Sport Hood Photo Thread

Curious what the going rate is at the yards in your neck of the woods?

Picked up mine (color matched) K73 Mil. Silver for $175 from a junkyard. More than I wanted to spend but seemed a decent enough price. Hood needs a good decon and paint correction + some stone chip touchup. One corner has been touched up already, might re-do that area to ensure future rust protection.

Weather depending, I'm planning on hitting up a local LQK who have a couple of 3rd gens on the lot, one being an '99 IJM Sport edition/highlander. From the pics the hood has failing clearcoat at a minimum so will need some work, but their generic price for a hood (+ core) is $65 so a potential bargain for someone willing to put in a bit of elbow grease. Again, condition dependent!

They could not be easier to remove and install - 4 self-centering conical head bolts and a reconnect of the washer hose - 5 mins.

That truck had been there a few weeks and was pretty much a carcass :/

I've set up an alert now as my local pick n pulls seem to get 4runners regularly. In the MD area there are always trucks being lost to rust

They were available in 2018 at dealer haven't checked lately.
Addicted Offroad bumper, weighs 12 lbs more than stock fatlip bumper assembly.

I did some searching and discovered that there is not a dedicated thread for photos of Runners with sport hoods. This is not a cheap mod, but it is popular - you will always find owners looking for these. A scooped hood can really transform the entire front end of a 4Runner... It just gives it a more overall aggressive look.

My sport hood is being shipped to me, so the best I can do in the meantime is post a photo of the hood I bought and another of a Stellar Blue with a sport hood.

Some owners paint the bulge insert a color other than the body color - this can look sharp as in the photo below showing it painted silver to match the Limited trim...

I don't know what Runner this is from, but I like these TRD stripes...

I've seen some hoods painted black and this can look very cool...

I've never seen one in person, but here is the carbon fiber version...

From 1999-2002 scooped hoods were standard on Highlanders/Sport Editions and available as options on all SR5s (I think). Of course they will fit on any 1996-2002 4Runner. It would be great if we could get photos of 4Runners with sport hoods in every color combination on this thread as a resource for members here.

These rigs look the best with the scoop, it's insane!

Nice rigs! So crazy how good the 3rd gens still look even sitting side by side their bigger bro! I'm selling my '01 at the moment to buy an '08 V8 and am excited, but know once I let this one go I'm going to be so bummed as they are gorgeous rigs. Do you still have both of yours?

Agreed. Not sure what I'd do if I popped my scooped hood open to a 3.0l turbo diesel.

I'd be lying if I said the newer looks better. Damn these older rigs hold their own both on pavement and off. Great looking rig, bud.
