" It's uncomfortable for a lot of current 4Runner owners to accept that the new one is a vast improvement over the 5th gen. Again, natural and normal for those financially and emotionally invested in, let's be frank, very expensive vehicles."
In your nsho, which I think is mostly psychobabble. It's unproven. It's more complex. It's a bunch of things, but entirely unproven.
And what makes you think everyone who owns a 5th gen is invested in any way at all.
Fwiw, I sold my 2016 to my stepson and bought '24 TRD OR Prem w/KDSS. It's my vehicle. It's not my baby, it's a truck.
My wife refused my offer to dump her '16 Avalon Touring and write a check for a new Lexus of some sort. She is sentimental.
Me? If I find something I like better I'll write another check, get rid of the '24. Heck, I might give it to my stepson. Then I might even buy a new '24 in each color. It's only money and I have lots of checks left.
Don't go painting everyone with the same brush. You are embarrassing yourself. Some people are more rational than you give them credit for.
