I have a Walther PK380 that I really like. I had a lot of trouble with it at first, and from reading the Walther Forums, it seems other have as well. I sent it off to S&W - the American service center for Walther - they replaced the barrell, and it has been great ever since.

What are you looking to use the gun for? Concealed carry? Range toy? There are more options out there for guns than there are for wheel/tire/suspension combos for the T4R, so it can get confusing in a hurry. My recommendation is to find a local range that rents pistols and shoot everything you are thinking about buying. It's a lot cheaper to rent gun and find out you don't like it, than it is to buy the thing and figure out it's not what you want.
I buy guns purely for self defense. I open carry mostly, but I can also conceal carry my Pk380. I also have a Ruger 22/45 for my wife, which is a terrible concealed carry pistol, but great for my wife at home. She has no trouble doing a 5" group at 21 feet, which is all the farther you will shoot in a home defense situation. It doesn't matter how big your gun is if you can't hit anything with it. She had some trouble with the 380, so we opted for a gun she can shoot well, rather than something she can't hardly shoot.
I'll probably end up picking up a 38 revolver for concealed carry, as I don't 100% trust a semi-auto, although there is something to be said about having 8 shots + however many mags you care to carry.

seems like a good battle between either the M&P9c or G26. I remember the 2x4 feeling last time I fired a glock (likely a G19)

I shot my friends Glock 40 and just didn't like it. I have large hands and couldn't get a solid grip on it. I had more fun shooting my other friends 45 Long Colt Single Action cowboy revolver.

I love my M&P shield but I bought it specifically for CC. It fits very well carrying IWB. It has never skipped a beat at the range. Shoots very well.

Mostly range unless I feel like I should carry.

Got a gun show on Saturday I'd like to go check out so I can look at both, but seeing the fullsize M&P mag with a grip extender in it makes that perfect for the range and the stock mag for carry. So far the M&P seems to be cheaper too. hopefully as someone mentioned, by the time I can buy one they won't be so inflated in price again.

I do have that hi point though. Pile of junk as far as looks and weight go, but it's never had a cleaning in at least three years. Too bad I can't buy the ammo right now.

^^^ shields are nice, the only thing I didn't like was how skinny the grip is. Not comfortable at all in my hand.

saw this one that was cerakoted... looks great. If I end up with one of these, that's definitely something I'll do.

I went back and forth between the MP9c and the XD subcompact 9mm and ended up getting the XD because it was lighter, had the extended mag, the 2.7" barrel, and I found it for a really good price and it also had only 20 rounds through it. The guy was selling it because he found the same gun in OD green hahaha. And he happened to be driving a lifted 3rd gen too! But I do absolutely love the XD, muchhh better than my old glock 26 too.

I love my M&P .40, only around 800 rounds through it so far but never any problems, very accurate and powerful.

My dad just gave me his old 10/22 and I'm looking to get one of those ATI stocks like you have Mike, super fun!

I have the M&P 9mm. I love it. I've shot over 2000 rounds through it and no jams. My brother got me into the M&P since it's his duty carry and he bought the pro for his competitions. We went shooting one day and i shot his duty and pro. The pro was just a bit to big so I opted for the 9 and havent regreted the decision yet. Also to it to my gunsmith and had him work the trigger down to 4 lb pull. Im definatly more accurate now. Anyone with an M&P should look up Welcome to Apex Tactical Specialties, Inc.

If you aren't going to be carrying alot, just go full size.

I carried a Springfield XD Service model for a while (I carried daily almost everywhere). It wasn't uncomfortable, and yet was still enjoyable to shoot on range days. I even carried a 1911 for a while as well. I like to shoot a lot, so I prefer "full-size" handguns.

Either way, get the gun that fits your hand most naturally. I actually chose the XD over a glock because of the feel. You'll want something that aims naturally for you since it's going to be a carry weapon.

I ordered a Wilson Combat tube extension, as the Rem. currently holds 4 rounds in the tube and one in the chamber. This will take it up to 6+1. :hunter::50cal:

I don't have much. Got a Springfield XD 45 that I'm considering selling so I can get Springfield XDs or compact. I also have a Kahr .380, Ruger 10/22, & a Japanese Arisaka 7.7x58 w/bayonette (my grandpa gave me this one).

However, my favorite gun is my Browning Citori White Lightning:

The revolver/semi auto debate.

On an other thread, someone brought up the a revolver was safer to carry due to it being a "Double Action Only, DAO" (the trigger does two actions, pulls the hammer back and then releases it). There are some DAO semi-autos like the SCCY SCCY Industries . Its a small carry 9mm, DAO, 10 round semi auto. With this, as with all semi-autos, you either have to slide the rack to chamber the first round or carry with one chambered. Having one chambered in a DAO semi-auto would not be different than a revolver. Also with a DAO semi-auto, like a DAO revolver, the trigger pull is consistent with every pull. The down side of a DAO is that the trigger is heavy every pull. This is fine for a carry but not so good for a fun range gun.

One major advantage of a revolver is if you are in a close contact confrontation and shove a revolver into a body, it will still fire. If you do the same with a semi-auto, pressure on the front will take it out of battery and will not fire. (a gun is taken out of battery, the ability to fire, when the slide is moved rearward by even a 1/4" on some guns)

Some say that revolvers are easier to carry due to the shape.

Revolvers are very simple guns. They rarely jam. If you get a FTF, pull the trigger again.

I know...assault rifles. Actually, one is a shotgun, the other is a 5.56 A4 platform. I suggest that everyone interested in protecting our 2nd amendment right to own and carry should consider joining the NRA. At $25.00 annually, it is a very inexpensive way to invest in an organization which lobbies against unnecessary gun control legislation. It is somewhat ironic that I was trained in the military as an infantryman and served with distinction, handling everything from a .45 combat pistol to a shoulder mounted wire guided missile...and some progressive wants to tell me that I can no longer legally own a firearm. Trust me, if some legislators had it their way, we would no longer be able to own anything more threatening than a slingshot. This country can not afford to place a police officer on every street corner and I am not willing to risk the chance of not being able to protect my family in the event some jerk off tries to enter my home with the intent to do bodily harm.

LOL, I know. I was making fun of the media & anti gun folks. Everything that is black is an assault weapon. I have an assault 4runner.

I just picked up the Browning a few weeks ago. Sporting clays are big in the company I work for and we do an annual shoot every year. I did my first one this year and was hooked immediately. I plan to do a lot more of it this summer. Talked to all the gun snobs I work for and the Browning was highly recommended, so I found one at a good price and bought it. It is my favorite gun because it is the prettiest. I haven't even had time to shoot the damned thing yet. Hope to remedy that this weekend.

If you carry or have your home protection without a round chambered, you will need to rack the slide before you need to shoot.

It's all muscle memory. Practice, practice, practice. At the range and dry fire at home. It needs to become instinctual to rack the side first. Obviously if there isn't a round in the chamber, it can't fire (for the good and bad). With a revolver, unless you have one open chamber set at the first drop of the hammer, it will go off. Racking the slide does slow things down but it is definitely safer... Unless you don't have the time to slide the rack like a carjacking.

You need to go as far as acting out from laying in bed, wake up, grab your gun, rack it and acquire your target.
