Official T4R "Firearms" thread

For those of you who carry while camping, do you make efforts to conceal your firearm or do you prefer to open carry on your hip? I assume that most will prefer larger calibers which are more difficult to conceal.

I like to open carry, just because you can't do it anywhere else in calofornia.

I've always been a fan of the AR-10/7.62 AR platform.

Updated Policy for State and Local Agency Law Enforcement Sales:

Due to the recent and numerous new Anti-gun/Anti-2nd Amendment laws passed and/or pending across our country, LaRue Tactical has been forced to reconsider how we provide products to state and local agencies.

Effective today, in an effort to see that no legal mistakes are made by LaRue Tactical and/or its employees, we will apply all current State and Local Laws (as applied to civilians) to state and local law enforcement / government agencies. In other words, LaRue Tactical will limit all sales to what law-abiding citizens residing in their districts can purchase or possess.

State and local laws have always been a serious focus of this firm, and we are now dovetailing that focus with the constitutional rights of the residents covered in their different areas by the old and new regulations.

We realize this effort will have an impact on this firm's sales - and have decided the lost sales are less danger to this firm than potential lawsuits from erroneous shipments generated by something as simple as human error.

Thanks in advance for your understanding.

Mark LaRue

Wow, that might have just made them a sale from me. :trophy:

open carry, to be honest, i don't like CCW laws at all, i wish it was mandatory open carry everywhere, at least then you know who's got what, to bad the American public is to gun shy/afraid to allow that to happen...i really don't get it...it's cool everyone to have guns as long as i don't see it? what kind of high school teacher b.s. is that? i digress.....i keep the long guns in the back till they are ready to be used and the pistol on the hip later in the day....i wish i would have had one yesterday...went on a hike not even thinking about it and came across a mountain lion and had to back away slowly and just go home...my 6" knife wasn't going to be much good in that case...

yeah me too, problem is i can't afford that, and if i was in that price range it'd be hard for me not to buy a scar, i'm trying to keep it under 2.5 which is a real problem because i have to have one that looks like the picture up there, A2 upper, quad rail, flip sights.....i'm looking at lwrc right now as that's right on the cusp of my budget, other wise thinking RRA's ver....and i really like their half quad rail ...

that looks amazing to me, great place for my hand to grip, throw my bi-pod and a varmint light on there and be happy...

I have been contemplating that recently. I'm thinking CC will cause less "anxiety" from fellow hikers. Next is to find a bag/pouch/holster to use on my backpack hip belts.

fyi, if you guys haven't seen-it ar15.com has a thread called "lower receivers in stock" check it out for some tips on who has what in stock.

I prefer open carry as well. Although, the last few camping trips I've been on have included recreational shooting so we have a bit more firepower than we would take on a day hike for example. I've seen a few guys that hike with AR-15's slung on their backs.

I think you would be able to build one for under 2.5. Rainier Arms in Auburn has some match grade .308 barrels on their site right now for $299. They are also a Mega Arms distributor so i'm sure you could pick up the mega maten upper, lower, CH, BCG and barrel for $1200 if you're willing to wait for items to get back in stock.

I've actually moved to the more minimal rails myself and only add picatinny rails when needed. Picking up one of these today to replace my DD quad rail:

While i was at Rainier Arms, look what I found on the wall (i guess in the picture its on the floor):

All under your $2,500 budget :frog:

Eric, are you looking for fmj's? hollow point? range ammo? reloads? or ?

try sgammo.. but everytime they get some in stock.. is like honey and bees.. those guy used to be my go to for ammo.. before this whole panic.. I picked up 1k/5.56 for about $300 shipped to my front door.. and for 9's.. it was like $200 an case shipped..

cabela's too...

Yeah range ammo and reloads and a little bit of hollow points, seems like everywhere else is running out, and the places that have it are charging ridiculous prices

do you have any preference on hollow points?

I tried calling wally world every few days since they get shipments in every night.. but by the time it hits the floor.. there are people already waiting for it in the am for it..

at one of my lgs.. they had an sig 516 but charged $1k over the msrp for it..

I remember back in the days paying like $10 dollars for an brick of .22lr and $6 dollars an box for 9mm.. if I would have knew..

I'm seeing quite a few AR and AK offers pop up lately. They are still overpriced and seem to be selling within a few hours, but its good to see some availability, and the prices are slowly coming back down.

I'm really fighting the urge to buy this Zastava pistol. :frog:

What a few folks out there still think they have gold out there? it will be back to normal shortly..

no... i think it's the calm before the storm, our senate just put some crappy AWB ban bill up in the state house yesterday....look at this shit..
(5) In order to continue to possess an assault weapon that was legally possessed on the effective date of this section, the person possessing the assault weapon shall do all of the following:

(a) Safely and securely store the assault weapon. The sheriff of the county may, no more than once per year, conduct an inspection to ensure compliance with this subsection;

door to door searches of your home, anytime they see fit....what's this commy shit...needless to say I've very very pissed...but i digress, we should try to leave the politics out of this thread, and just enjoy what we got for now!

Stock comes in and goes out in quickly. Last night at 10 PM I got an e-mail from an online reloading components supplier that they got some bullets in stock (just the projectiles, not loaded ammo). By the time I got on at 7 AM, they still had some 45 ACP 230 gr RN, but all 9mm was gone.

Its hard not to include politics right now since it is causing the panic buying and shortages that all of are experiencing right now.

Here is an article talking about our political anti-gun grandstanding bill aka SB 5737 that theizzardking linked to earlier: Wash. state bill would make almost all gun owners criminals

I've seen a few M&P 15's that were $2500 a couple of weeks ago down to $1500 this week. Still high but coming down. Plus a few LGS are steadily getting rifles back in stock which is promising. Even the cost of ammo in the classifieds are going down.
