Because of the high prices and unavailable ammo i have decided to temporarily change from gun nut to (again) 4 runner nut because its actually cheaper to mod my truck than buy cool firearms . I havent shot since the Newtown incident, crazy, I was working in Newtown today, Its hard to beleive that such a nice quiet town could be the catalyst for starting the worst anti gun era ever known. I can't bring myself to even go to the range since I can't buy ammo. Shure I have some but how long will it be before I can buy ammo at a fair price. Even air gun pellets are getting hard to buy. aThis sucks, I like to shoot it makes me happy and calm and free. Oh well i guess I can wait it out until the supply catches up with the demand. I guess it makes me happy that america decided to arm themselves. I did what I could in the days following the Newtown shooting too so....

A buddy and I split an ammo can of 1450 rounds of M1 Carbine ammo (Lake City brass). I went over to his house tonight to pick up my 1/2. He ordered it just before the stupidity started.

While I was over there, he told me that he was having trouble getting targets -- yes, paper targets.

A buddy and I split an ammo can of 1450 rounds of M1 Carbine ammo (Lake City brass). I went over to his house tonight to pick up my 1/2. He ordered it just before the stupidity started.

While I was over there, he told me that he was having trouble getting targets -- yes, paper targets.

There are websites that have paper targets you can print out.

I understand why all the ammo is gone... all these newbs arming themselves need ammo, and idiots stockpiling ammo hoping to get a return investment on it. I know someone that talked to a guy in a gun store that has 3k rounds of .223 and doesn't own a gun in that caliber. He was just hoping to make money on it when they stopped making ammo. I hope he loses money on it cause he will.

well the only news I have is that I finally cleaned my 10/22 after three years. Actually, I have to take the action apart this weekend. it's so gunked up. never had an FTF or FTE. Did have one ftf with the hi point... but looking back I know why. I spent a week just polishing the chamber and slide with a q-tip and forgot to oil it before the range. Happened on the third round. put 22 rounds downrange after that with no trouble... besides the frozen fingers anyway.

I've been buying as much ammo as I can, when I can. I'm doing this so I have ammo when I want to go to the range. Between my wife and I, we will shoot 200-800 rounds in a day. You can't stop by the store on the way to the range and get what you need.

Side note: It looks like most, if not all, of the big stores have a 3 box limit on ammo right now. They do get some random loads in from time to time.

I've got plenty of targets right now, but the ones that I use (IDPA targets) are too large for my printer to print.

I'm not stockpiling ammo to resell it. I'm stockpiling ammo because I try to keep a lot of ammo on hand in all of my major calibers. I shoot more than 5k rounds per year.

I've got a bunch of shooting buddies and I don't know any of them that are looking to sell any of their ammo. I might try to swap some of my Federal Large Pistol Primers for Winchester (because I prefer Winchester) but I'm sure as heck not going to sell any.

Same here. I maintain a healthy stock of all the calibers i shoot. I've made it a habit to pick up a few boxes of ammo every week (pmag every 2 weeks) to support my weekly shooting trips. Although this "habit" has been put on hold since mid dec, the trips to the range haven't. As with any perishable skill, you need practice.

Although this "habit" has been put on hold since mid dec, the trips to the range haven't. As with any perishable skill, you need practice.

I mostly shoot pistol and I reload the pistol calibers that I shoot the most of -- 45 ACP and .38 Spcl. Next year I may start shooting SSP, so I'll start reloading 9mm again. I couldn't shoot as much if I didn't reload. When I do buy ammo, it isn't a few boxes; I'll order a case instead because it is usually cheaper.

I find dry practice to be very beneficial. I've got full size IDPA targets and 1/2 size USPSA targets taped up all over the basement. Now and then I go down with my timer set to part time and practice dry. I'll do basic drills (e.g., draw and fire two shots, par time of 1.6 seconds) and I'll do field courses.

Most places give you the option of a clear coat (gloss or flat) and that supposedly helps.

My buddies shoot idpa with 9mm so they reload a ton. I trade my factory brass for reloads from time to time. I only buy in bulk when I see a good deals.

I still live in a condo so having targets up all over our place would we a bit annoying for the gf...ha. We go shooting in open pits with no one around so we set up idpa target stands and do timed drills, transition drills, conceal draw and mini 3-gun courses.

With less then $20 in parts per pistol, I changed my HK P2000SKs' from a Variant 2 to a Variant 1 trigger. The trigger pull was averaging in the high 8 lbs and now they're averaging in the high 4 lbs. Also switched out the magazine release levers out to larger ones from the HK45C. Two of the best mods ever for these awesome little CCW's.
