Need all your guys thoughts and opinions for concealed carry. I know, obviously, the best way to figure out if you like something or not is to go out and shoot it but I haven't had the time for that yet.
How bad is .45, .40, and 9mm in something polymer and compact or subcompact?
I'm torn between some smith and wessons and some glocks. I have a full size m&p 40, full size glock 22, my dad has a glock 23, and a sig 226 chambered in .40. I recently fell in love with 1911's and the .45 acp and am wondering how bad the kick and recoil is in a compact or subcompact polymer frame.
any thoughts or ideas are greatly appreciated.

Yes. That's my fourth Battle Comp muzzle comp. They pretty much eliminate muzzle rise which is great for follow-up shots. They're a little pricey but well worth it. :sniper:
The grip you're referring to is made by Ergo. Unlike the hard plastic of the Magpul MIAD, its made of soft rubber and is real "grippy". It's a little narrower then the MIAD and easier and more comfortable to grip. For some reason though, I tend to favor the MIAD (probably because I have 5 rifles with the MIAD grip and just used to the feel).

Got my sig spartan. Love the finish hate the grips. If someone here wants them pm me an offer and they are yours. Brand new condition. I took them off at the gun shop. But the gun itself. It was worth every penny. 200 rounds of winchester white box not a single failure. Also 2 mags of Pmc hollow points with zero issues. Trigger had a little grit to it from the box but it just needed to be fired.

Personally, I wouldn't do a 45 in a compact polymer. If I was going to carry a 45 it would be full size or in an all-metal gun, preferably full SS (like the Kimber I used to carry). In short distances it doesn't matter but as range increases it become harder to make accurate follow-up shots.
I've shot compact 9mm, 40, and 357Sig in compact polymers, either Glocks and S&W M&P Compacts, and all are doable with some practice. Unless you are talking pocket pistol, they are fairly similar in size and concealment. If pocket pistol, I'd stick to 380 or 9mm.
I have to say the 357 Sig is my new favorite round. It's basically the cartridge of a 40 with the bullet of a 357... quite accurate and manageable in a compact. The ammo is a bit more expensive than 9 or 40 and can be challenging to find sometimes, but I like it enough to deal with it. Supposedly it's also a new favorite of LEOs too.
As for brand preference, it's just that. I like Glocks - I miss my G26 - but am fairly happy with the M&P 357C. If you go this route, look for the LEO version if you can find one. It comes with a third mag for roughly the same price.

lol no doubt, maybe if he lives long enough he'll have built enough for everyone to get a rifle haha
9mm is just fine in a compact or subcompact polymer gun. A Glock 19 in 9mm has very little appreciable recoil. My Glock 23 has noticeably more - it isn't bad but it is more.
I think a lot of it is down to how the grip fits you. My Kahr K9 has little noticeable recoil but my Kahr K40 is downright unpleasant.
My Kahr PM9 has noticeably more recoil than my K9 or even MK9. Given how my PM9 feels, there is no way I would want to shoot a PM40. The PM9 is good for what it is - a pocket gun, but you give up a lot for a gun that will fit in a pocket. If I'm carrying in a belt holster I will carry something bigger.
With the high performance 9mm rounds available now (like Federal HST), I think the argument for larger calibers isn't as strong as it used to be. I compete in IDPA and after shooting CDP for so long, I find it just effortless to get shorter split times and little muzzle rise using my Glock 34. That lower muzzle rise makes it much easier for me to track my front sight throughout the shooting cycle.
In reality, the difference in effectiveness between 9, 40, 45, etc. is dwarfed by shot placement. 9mm ammo is cheaper so you can practice more, and that practice is what matters most, IMNSHO.

Most instructors I've dealt with teach that each of those calibers will do the job so long as you do yours with proper placement. This makes the precision shooters happy and encourages new shooters to focus on better placement from the beginning.
[MENTION=80047]bofa[/MENTION], I've been hearing lots of good reviews on the 357 sig round recently. My dad bought a box of 50 instead of the magnums he wanted not long ago. I think he picked up a g32 instead of swapping the ammo out - this reminds me to ask. :naughty:

Damn Dawg4Runner, when you do it you do it right! WC makes some great stuff! Yesterday I took a friend LWRC M6 in 6.8SPC to be sighted in, nice gun but it was little to much tacticool for me. I like my ARs simple and clean, pretty much like yours.

11.5 barrel, The overall gun length is 26.3" without the muzzle device.
On a side note, anyone considering putting a vertical fore grip on an AR pistol should research the applicable laws first. It would turn the pistol into an AOW (any other weapon) which would require a tax stamp. The 300 BlackOut above comes from the factory with a vertical fore grip and is considered by the ATF to be neither a pistol nor an AOW. It's a loop hole that the manufacturer has capitalized on. When I first looked at it I was skeptical about both the configuration and the 300 blk out round. The more it researched it, the more I liked it. It's become one of my favorite firearms to shoot (out of both pistols and long guns).

I appreciate the feedback! Heading to the range tomorrow to shoot my dad's G23 again, and use the membership to try some free rentals. I have used the blue label program a few times on Glocks and it's just really hard to pass up the discount and extra magazine that come with it.
I haven't shot a 357SIG yet and I've always wanted to. I'll have to see if they have some at the range tomorrow.
