I have 5 NightForces, and I must say that the Compact 2.5-10x32 (mil/mil) that I have on one of my KAC SR-15s is really is not as bright as I had hoped. I KNOW it is only 32mm
But I needed it to take a beating in the back of my 4runner and still work, so of course I kept it.

I'm really on the fence for what optic I want to go with. I know I want something in the 2.5-10 range (or close to it), I don't want it to be super heavy or overly long, I want to use a QD mount like a Larue or Bobro, and I want it to be durable.

I have looked at US Optics, Leupold, Nightforce, and Vortex for the most part. The Vortex PST 2.5-10x32 interests me, and the price is reasonable, but I'm concerned about reliability. Leupold has some nice offerings but I'm not sure I like their reticle and turret combos as much. US Optics has some cool offerings as well.

The rifle it will be going on is gonna be an 18" 1-7 twist stainless barrel made by Douglas most likely, same supplier for the US SOCOM for their MK12 rifles. I will be shooting 77gr OTM projectiles out to about 600 yards with it.

Larue for sure, keeps 0.
My wife's Larue has a Leupold 1-4 on it and as much as I hate them, it's not too bad.

Took the .40 cal Walther PPS to the range yesterday for the first time. I've got to add the larger backstrap so it fits in my palm better - I found myself pushing the trigger as I was pulling and my shots ended up to the left of the bullseye.

Oh, and new mags rubbed a sore spot on my right thumb as I was reloading them. I looked for some midol, but must have left it at home.

Just my type of thread! I wanted to introduce myself here. Im fairly new here and am a huge gun nut! Im an 03(C&R) FFL and working on getting my 01. Im a collector and active duty military armorer. I have no idea how many I have off hand but Im a huge fan of Saiga rifles, and anything with CZs name on it. My opinions usually don't jive with most of the mainstream gun owners, but I have 16 years of military service and 2 deployments that gave me the experience and opinions I have! Its great seeing a firearm thread on here and I look forward to shooting the bull with yall!

Well, I'm disappointed... Magpul didn't design their MOE forend for the Mossberg 500 to work with the factory heat shield. :moping:

I'm considering either a HK P30 or a Sig P226. Both pistols are very similar and have a lot of the same features to include:
15rd mag cap
manual decocker
DA/SA
VERY ergonomic grips
Well known name, good quality and very reliable
Rails for lights
Night sights
Similar price

Etc...

Both are very awesome pistols and I wouldn't mind either but I need opinions.

Only those two? If I had to choose probably Sig. Just because parts and gear seems to more available.

Is this for home defense, CC, etc?

I don't own either and neither are on my short list the next time I go shopping, but I'd probably go with the Sig for price and aftermarket support.

Hands down HK. The whole spare parts and mags being scarce is an old myth. Just call HK USA and order them. Considering how tough the P30 has proven to be in many torture tests, I doubt you will ever need to replace anything though. HK says all the springs are good until 25,000 rounds shooting unsuppressed, including the recoil spring.

HK USA and G&R Tactical have magazines for $35 each, and Raven Concealment has holsters for it that ship in 1-5 days.

This is a worthy read if you are on the fence about an HK P30 vs every other duty sidearm on the market.

Would a dremel on the sides of the fore end work? It looks like they stick up more than the factory ribbed fore ends.

Most people are telling me sig and I'm leaning towards it. The sig is actually a little cheaper but at that price range the few bucks is negligible. There is a good selection of aftermarket goodies for both and I'm sure that both pistols will shoot tens of thousands of rounds before there are any issues with them.

The primary purpose of the pistol will replace my XD9 as a home defense pistol and overall fun... plus I want another gun! Due to their size I don't plan on using them as a CC pistol since I have my Kimber ultra and my Walther pk380.

They are both very well made pistols and feel very comfortable in my hands. The Sig I'm looking at also has a threaded barrel which means I need to get a suppressor for it IF I get that one.

I'd have to remove at least 4-5" of edge, and probably 1/2" of material... would totally maim the forend. I may just find another 500 without a shield.

I went and picked up my new pistol tonight. I went with the P30 because I felt that the grips were a bit more ergonomic and it came with extra back and side straps to make it mold perfectly to my hands. Ultimately it was the feel of the pistol that made me get the HK. The grip on it really feels absolutely perfect in my hands. The reviews on both pistols were awesome so I knew that either way I went wouldn't be wrong.

Here's the beauty that's replacing the XD9 on my night stand.
