yes, I agree.
he did say they were pretty busy with a military contract, when I initially called.
but when I called back, a few WEEKS later, he said I should have the parts already. so either they got shipped out once, and was lost, or they were never sent out.
also, there was an issue with the guy that was handling my stuff....got sent OUT of country for some military thing, and my tiny warranty issue got overlooked, and not handed off to someone else.
it was a PITA. I think I just got "lucky" with my timing. or at least id like to think that was the case.
I didn't have an urgent need for the pistol at the time, otherwise I would have just bought the parts myself.
Hopefully I don't have any issues with my HK. Luckily I haven't had any issues with any of my firearms yet. I don't shoot a ton but I do shoot between 500-1000 rounds a month of various calibers so my firearms don't stack up a high round count very fast. The more I tinker with the HK though the more I like it. Depending on how it shoots this weekend it may even turn into my daily carry pistol. If that's the case it will get around 500 rounds a month through the pipe.

So who can point me in the direction of a 5" 9mm 1911? This will purely be a range gun, and I'm not gonna shell out Wilson or Nighthawk money on one right now, but would love to later down the road.
I looked at the RIA Tactical 9mm, I know they are low end Philippines manufactured on a cast frame, but for $430 they seem to get fantastic reviews for the most part. It has decent sights, and I could be in business with a quick grip change and a half dozen 10 round mags for under $600. Thoughts? Remember I'm not gonna carry it, just blast some paper and steel targets. Maybe use it in USPSA single stack as well this summer.
There just doesn't seem to be much in the intermediate priced 9mm 1911 market, most are geared toward gamers and the price tag reflects it. I think the Springfield is over a grand, and it comes with target sights, match barrel and trigger. The STI Trojan is also over a grand now, think it's approaching $1500 actually.
I really wish Springfield made their Milspec model in 9mm, I'd buy one in a second as I prefer the older GI look but with taller modern sights.
Ultimately, I want a Wilson CQB in 9mm, but I can't drop $3k on a pistol right now.

I've heard mostly positive things about RIA but I think that's usually weighted considering the price. For range use I think you'll be pleased.
Another inexpensive but quality 1911 is American Classic. Most that have both consider the AC slightly better in fit and finish than the RIA. I have the AC in a 45 have it's been flawless. Back when I bought it they were a bit cheaper than RIA and easier to locate... not sure if that still holds true. They come in 9mm too.
I just sold a Star Super B in 9mm that was in amazing condition. 1911 snobs will talk smack about them but it was a damn nice gun that shot extremely well. I paid 150$ for it at a gun show in VA. Excellent range gun. Get a cheap one and enjoy practicing with it. I love the look on the faces of the guys with 2 grand pistols when they get out shot by a guy with a 150$ one! This "gamer" generation thinks they can somehow buy skills buy dumping a ton of cash (that they can't afford) on a gun that well above their skill level. I had a troop that worked for me, 168k in debt, that had a nighthawk custom and a nice (looking) kimber custom. He couldn't hit a bear in the ass with a bass fiddle! He never took the time to develop any base skills, and thought he could just throw cash at the problem.
Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox now, and this wasn't directed at anyone here, just venting! Definitely try out the Star and Llama pistols. They are dirt cheap and I have never had a problem with any of them.

Would the STI have better fit and finish over the RIA? They are probably made by the same company if the STI is from the Philippines. Armscor makes the RIA.
I am having another dilemma here. I have a Winchester 1906 .22 pump action rifle. Going off of the SN it was made in 1913. Judging by the condition using the NRA conditions standards it is in fair to good condition. A lot of the blueing is gone but the stock and pump handle is in pretty good condition. I know that in it's current condition it's worth somewhere between $600-$900. So my dilemma is that it's a rifle that has been passed down throughout my wife's family for quite some time now, her great grandfather bought it new back in the day. It will continue to be passed down through the family for years to come. I would like to have it re-furbished. I want to get the metal re-blued and have the stocks re-stained as well. I know that doing that will destroy the value of the rifle. But the plus side of doing that is that the rifle will stay in excellent condition for a bunch of years. The way it sits now there is a lot of bare metal on the rifle and I'm not too happy with that.
So, what would you do? Keep in mind I'm not a collector who wants the rifle to stay in max value condition. This is a family heirloom and it will be passed down through the family so keeping the rifle in good shape is important.

My $0.02:
I'm kinda in the same boat, except mine is smaller and not "worth" as much. Wife's mother (who died with cancer) handed down her grand mothers (my wife's great grand mother) high standard .22 revolver that she apparently used to kill a herd of sasquatches way back in the day ( she was apparently quite a character). So, there's only sentimental value in hers really. In our particular case, no matter what we do, this pistol isn't worth much so we're going to have it reblued and the grips replaced or refinished. Plus, the value is inconsequential to us because we have no need or desire to part with it. Wife will likely never fire it, but our son more than likely will and it could be a cool piece for him down the line with memories that he wouldn't have if it were left in the condition it sits in today.
EDIT: my dad has that exact same rifle that was his grandfathers - my great grandfather. I remember shooting that rifle what seem like 100,000 times when I was younger and we were still running the farm. I'll likely be in the same boat as you when my dad hands it down to me so I am interested in the responses as well.
