Im going to assume we are talking about the V6 here and Im going to REALLY hope you plan on changing the oil more than every 30k? In that case you will need an oil filter and 6 quarts of oil as well as a drain plug gasket, they are like $1 / ea from the dealer so buy a pack. The V6 is also supposed to change plugs every 30k so refer to the manual for what kind you need. 30k is also a pretty good interval for replacing the engine air filter. Pick up a grease gun and some good synthetic chassis grease and lube the zerk fittings on the driveshaft(s) as well. Not required but nice to have done is replace the front, center, and rear diffs with synthetic gear oil, I did mine at 30k and will probably only change the rear at 90k. If you put all this stuff in a big box, you have now made yourself a kit.
thanks for the input fellas. My 4.0V6 4runner has 103k on the clock. I have always had my 4runner serviced by the dealer. Now having over 100k on the clock, I will be performing my own fluid changes for sure and will probably tackle some preventive maintenance. i plan on tackling the oil, trans, and diff exchange next weekend.

Yea 6 qts is good for the oil. I did my diffs and transfer case a while back. If u look in the back of the manual there is a capacities section that will tell u how much to buy. Don't forget new crush washers, less than 6 bucks. If I remember right I bought 7 qts of gear oil. U are prob due for spark plugs too. Buy them at the dealer, it's something like $4 each.

I can't confirm it, but filters are just over $4 at my dealer so I can see how a case of 10 would be under $40. Buying in bulk will usually save a little money.

Hey RIDE: you have one of these? Any pictures? I've been wanting to get one of these after I striped my drain plug a while back....
I have one of the drain valves on mine and love it. I think I have a picture somewhere and will try to find it. It does drain lower but is MUCH more user friendly and cleaner. I made a set of ramps from 2x12's for the front and can just sit a waste oil container I take to the dump right under it. So no more transfering from a pan to the waste oil container too.
