Oil change prices

:awais: Does any one known a price range for a Differential oil and/or transfer case oil change. The dealership I am dealing with in NY, charges about 120 dollars for each service. Is that a fair price?

man you're getting hose if you pay those jerkoff $120 for each!diy and save a chit load of $$$ man! its easier then changing the oil! lol

Yep, get the proper fluids and do it in the driveway. Spend probally 20 to 30 bucks and a couple of hours learning how a little more about your vehicle. Just make sure you get the correct diff fluid. If it specifiys LSD type fluid get that kind. Good luck and post up questions if you come across any.

T:iagree: Thanks for the info. I was thinking of purchasing the 03 4runner repair manual to find out how i could change those fluids(Unless you have a website w/ PDF to download). Do you know where I can purchase the fluids, ie Pep Boys, Autozone, or directly from the dealership?Also, what is "LSD"fluid? THANKS AGAIN, I REALLY appreciate the info!!

I just did the rear diff and my 2006 v6 today. amsoil severe gear 75w-90 which i found for $7.00 p/qt and the toyota dealer gave me 2 new crushwashers (freebie) but even still.. those couldn't cost more than a buck a piece. That, a 24mm socket and a drainpan. and you are all set. it's a 15 minute job.

Do that one yourself and get the good fluid put in.

Did you add the new oil with a gear oil pump? What are the crush washers for?

Yes I used a pump. Ihave had one for years. It's the only way to go. The crush washers act as a gasket and form a tight seal around the plug boss when you tighten the fill & drain plugs.
