The visits are at 5000-mile intervals, but the oil changes are at 10,000 miles, which is every other visit.

As per Toyota it's 10k miles intervention between oil changes. I do mine at 7k cause I do a lot of stop and go traffic.

It’s every 10,000 according to the manual. You should have complimentary oil changes for the first 25k. I’d say if they want you back in 5k and it’s complimentary then do it.
I’ve been doing mine every 5k-7.5k mi with my tire rotations. Just easier for me to remember when to do it. My oil is pretty dark even at 5,000 mi. Best thing to do is to do it yourself and stock up on oil when you see it on sale. Walmart had a big sale on Mobil-1 0W-20 for a while and and Costco has sales on M1 0W-20 every so often too. Just look up on some threads about the oil change horror stories on here and you won’t want Toyota even touching your truck. Those quick lube and express lane guys are nothing more than grease monkeys.

I try to do mine every 5,000 miles but sometimes I got a little over. 10,000 is too infrequent in my opinion.
I just switched over the NAPA 0W-20 synthetic since it was on sale and they told me it is Valvoline. $17.50 for a 5 quart container was a steal. And even not on sale cheaper than if it had a Valvoline label on it.

Check your records to see if they really did an oil change at 5000. As others have said, service interval is 5000, oil changes at 10,0000 according to the manual. Time also plays a factor so a yearly oil change is recommended even if you’re not at 10,000. Dealers do whatever, often not a lot of rhyme or reason. Some still recommend 3-5k oil changes, not to mention a myriad of other “preventative” maintenance that is not recommended by Toyota. Read your manual and you will probably know more about the required services than the service writer will. As far as the sticker, it’s just a reminder to come back. Many dealers get them free from oil distributors.

A quick look at your Warranty and Maintenance Guide will tell you the recommended oil change windows.

It probably IS Valvoline, but that does not mean it has the same additive packages. I'm not saying it's a bad oil, but it is more than likely a cheaper additive package that offers less overall protection in interest of lower cost. Just saying, because some people get REALLY into the weeds with oils.

Just my 64 y/o 2 cents:
I'm on 4Runner #4 at this time and they all were/are used to tow frequently. Each was on an 8k-10k miles or 1 year, whichever came first, frequency.
2nd gen had 215,000 miles when I sold it.
3rd gen had 152,000 miles when I sold it.
4th gen has 170,000 miles, still have it.
5th gen...still a baby.
I also had 3 other Toyotas, the lowest mileage on those was 178,000 and I followed the same frequency as the T4Rs.
No oil usage, no decrease in performance. Also, I was a Predictive Maintenance Engineer while working nukes and had ferrgrophy training given by major oil companies. For those of you changing your oil because it's "dark", you're wasting your money. The additive packages continue to work despite the darkening due to hydrocarbons.

Nuke, thanks for your experienced opinion. Just out of curiosity in lieu of using mile as a gauge at what engine hour point would you recommend for oil change? Anyone else have a suggestion on hours instead of miles? Thanks
It always seemed like basing on fuel used instead of hours or miles would account for heavy/light loads. Never tried it as tracking miles and the manual is easier and avoids any questions for cars.
