Just wondering what all happened with this, op!
I ended up replacing my pcv valve, but it didn't help, and there's still a noticeable oil mark on the valve cover by the filler cap. I also ended up re-torquing my valve cover gaskets too, but I haven't had a chance to drive it much to see if that helped with the burning oil smell again. If it doesn't, I'm guessing it's the filler cap, so I'm going to get a new gasket for it here soon.
Cheers!
Long story as short as possible. I had a clogged pcv line causing too much pressure, pressure had to find somewhere to go. Once I replaced the rear main seal it found just pushing it back out to be the most efficient route, lol
X2. Did the same thing here. I was surprised how it came out in hard chunks and not one soft mushy rubber piece. So I replaced the oil fill cap gasket today. By comparison the old one looked shot. Very deep indent and the new one was flush. I'm going to laugh my ass off if this was the source of my oil leak, but at least I don't have to touch my vc gaskets again then!
just confirming you are using an oem pcv right?
Thanks
So I have been theorizing about this. I have oil weeping from the oil filler cap. I also have oil weeping from 2 of the 6 spark plug tube gaskets (I replaced them and still had the issue on 2 of them). Here is the kicker though, I've been having rear main seal issues too. I replaced it when I did the clutch a few months back, and shortly thereafter (2 months ish) I noticed I was losing a LOT of oil (quart every 30 minutes). I pulled the trans to do the seal, once I got everything off, I noticed that the top edge of the seal was sitting ~1/8" proud of where it should, so I replaced it and was very very careful about seal placement and install (who wants to drop the trans a 3rd time?!?). Anyways, got it all buttoned back up, losing a ton of oil immediately. Just got everything back down and the seal is sitting proud (whole thing, all the way around).
So I installed the oil catch cans I was talking about a while back. I'm wondering if they are clogged and now allowing pressure to vent. The whole seal being evenly pushed proud, sounds to me like it would take even pressure from the back side (and a lot of it, that seal is atight fit). What do yall think? Is that possible or do I really suck that bad at RMS install?
aftermarket RMS or Toyota...
How many miles? Don't know if these engines can develop issues with crank end play like some other engines
