oil filter change

I usually keep some of those little "pig mats" absorbent pads when doing oil changes on anything where the filter can leak oil on the sub-frame. I know the auto parts store can charge an arm, and leg but oil changes only come every 3k so it's worth the price to not make a mess. I just lay them on top of the subframe under the filter as I spin it off.

I go in through the wheel well. A judicious use of a plastic bag usually handles any oil spillage. After my first change, I did install a Fumoto valve, which makes things even easier and less messy.

I too go through the wheel well opening for the filter. So far my hand is all that's required.

Always through the fender flap! The first time I dropped my skid plate was when I did my timing belt.

I usually break it loose, then cover it with a plastic Ziploc bag to catch the oil as well as the filter when it's fully unscrewed. No cleanup required!

Nice! I'll try this next time. Never needed to remove skid plates.

Just did it today. Stuff rag under filter. Go through wheel well. Then wash her off with pressure washer. You never catch it all.

Just be glad you guys don't have anything like my Savage skids to remove. It's only 5 bolts, but balancing that sucker on a floor jack sure is fun.

I do. All the time. Turn the steering all the way to driver side. Which opens up the gap to get your hand in. Loosen the oil filter little by hand. Slide few towels below it, and a plastic bag over the filter. Then completely remove the filter and quickly slide the filter into the plastic bag. Catching mostly all of the oil.
