Does that mean you think that the Amsoil filter is superior to the Toyota filter?

AMSOIL sells on a pyramid scheme basis. Dealers get bonuses for sales. They might be a little biased. I use AMSOIL Severe Gear in my diffs so I'm not against them but you have to consider the source and their motivations. I've read that the OEM filters are well suited for the job. Change them out on a regular basis and they should work just fine.

The only reason to really use an Amsoil filter is if you are going to do the Amsoil oil change interval of 25,000 miles. This involves sending your oil off to a lab when you change the filter at I think 12,500 miles??? Not sure about when the filter is to be changed but.. If using this extended oil change interval I would use the Amsoil filter because then your vehicle will under the Amsoil warranty if anything crazy should happen.

Honestly, Im kinda actually wondering if the TRD oil filter is an Amsoil filter with TRD stamped in it. Like Amsoil got contracted to make it.

Look at them both. Damn near identical, with the same font on the printed date on the metal top, and same red gasket.

Amsoil does not make their filters and I believe they get them mostly from Wix to Amsoils specifications. Maybe Baldwin or Donaldson makes some of them also. So the TRD filter may be from Wix???

Ah, the quarterly oil/oil filter thread, debating whether the engineers who build the engine, for the company who warranties the engine, actually got it right.

Cheap, reliable, available anywhere, 10K OCIs. It's beyond me why this even comes up. Bah.

I don't think anyone thinks the engineers got it wrong. The fact is, the warranty is what 50K miles? Anything will get you 50K miles, that's no secret. Running a better filter and better oil will only make your engine last longer. Changing oil "too soon" will never hurt anything. I change my oil every 5K miles with is about twice a year using the OEM filter and Mobil 1 0-20. At about $60 per oil change, it's very cheap peace of mind knowing my oil and filter are clean. Can it go 10K miles? Sure it can, but why?

Engine and filter changed in 2014 I believe. Still the 4.0 but not the same as it was 15 years ago. No longer a spin on filter, it's now a canister which I actually prefer. Makes it nice and easy to inspect the filter media for anything that shouldn't be there.

Changing your oil too soon -> more frequent oil changes -> higher risk of contaminants introduced in closed system.

It's not lol even abused Toyota engines are hard to kill. Still never hurts to take extra care of them though. That really goes for every engine on the planet. No one ever hurt anything by over maintaining it. Waste of money? Maybe to some but not to me.
