Oil Filter Re-location Kit

Have been searching for a nice affordable option and came across these. I have used this same basic style previously (mass produced overseas) and have always had great results. A relocation kit is not rocket-science... so will see how the build quality is.

On previous aluminum versions like this that I have used, they are boss o-ring on the fittings. I always tossed the cheap o-rings and picked up better versions at my local hydraulic place. Combined with teflon tape on the threads, never had a leak. I know.. I know... teflon on boss o-ring lol

Last, I used loctite on the bracket bolt threads and all was good.

This kit caught my eye as it was the same version as I have used previously, but also came with barb fittings instead of just AN. For my applications, I would rather just do barbed fittings as I can just use basic hose.

Anyways, I have two kits on the way - will let you guys know how they turn out and if the quality is the same as what I have bought previously.

The idea for my 4runner(s) will be to flip the filter so it can be accessed from the engine bay - NOT the bottom of the vehicle. If needed to cut down on mess because of the anti-drain back valve, I will add in a tee in the hose with a valve so that I can drain the filter as best I can prior to removing the filter.

I'm really not sure I would screw around with the oiling system on these engines just to make the oil filter a little easier to get to every 5k miles.

That just my opinion though.

Adding in a filter re-location, your only dangers are a cut hose if installed piss poor or a broken mount. Otherwise - not really screwing with anything as they are as basic as adding in a tranny cooler. Just my opinion though

You should be fine. I have seen on one occasion where the oil pressure at the block dropped, but only marginally. Not enough to warrant grave concern.

Would adding the hose decrease the cleaning effectiveness of the filter since its not butted up next to the engine? Just wondering. I kind of like taking the skid plate off and inspecting under there every 6 months. Plus I get to look at the awesomeness of the belly of the beast. :naughty:

An oil filter re-location uses two hoses. There is an inlet and an outlet to the filter assembly. So, relocating the filter will not have an affect on oil filtering.

Will check the design of the block adapter and filter plate to see if there will be any volume restriction which would result in a pressure drop. Always a concern if the design is poor!

common on most inboard marine applications, sounds like a good idea to me. maybe upgrade it by using marine hosing?

I received both units in Wednesday. Will take some photos. There are a few details I will address with the build quality but overall they will flow perfectly and are an excellent base to start with (just need cleaned up and will take a carbide to the insides for improvements). The gaskets are typical junk, so ordering in some OEM oil cooler silicone o-rings.

I have a lift to do on both cars this weekend, tundra brakes on one, rear wheel cylinders on another + oil changes and drain and fills on the transmissions. Hopefully will get to the oil filter relocation in the next few weeks

its not that the stock filter is hard to get to, its just messy and awkward, draining all over the belly pan, and making it so you cant just catch all the oil in predictable places. having it remote with the filter hanging down would make it easier and cleaner

I have an old kit from a chevy big block, was used in line with a oil cooler but I would not put one on the Toyota in where I live, wonder if it would work, would just need new seals and hoses, but its prob wrong threads coming from the block
