Oil light goes on under 1000rpm

How does oil look? Clean.new ? When we rebuild motors here we use
Shit loads of assembly lube, after about 200 miles drop oil and replace
Due to assemble lube being washed out ? Plus if u do that today and it works
Think of the worry you wont have till you get back in the shop

Everything looks OK!!

Just wanted to put a quick post up to let everyone that has chimed in with helpful ideas that everything looks like it is fine.

We put a oil pressure guage on it last night and at idle it was reading a little over 4PSI, which is right where spec says it should be. Revved it up and got good pressures as well.

So it must be the sending unit, which i am going to replace at some point, but even if it doesn't fix the stupid oil light, i don't care as long as I know the oil pump on the JDM engine is not bad and I'm getting good pressure even at idle.

Thanks again everyone for the help and info! I can rest easy again now! :whoo:

is that a typo? 4psi is in spec for that engine? that seems crazy low.

Someone post a while back about some aftermarket oil filter they was using was making them have a light as well might want to look into that as well.

they looked it up on a PC at the shop and spec was like 4.2 or something like that, and I was right around 4.5 - 5 at idle.

Does anyone else know if that is correct spec? I just took their word for it

The spec I have for the 5VZ-FE is 4.3 psi at idle. That's on an engine at operating temperature, with oil that is also at full operating temperature.

Hey just think how easy it's going to be to replace the oil sending unit now?bryan you will need to
Start a thread on this next project that is soon to start on your 4Runner ?

Yeah Erik, we'll have to take lots of pictures. Maybe it will help someone else swap their frame!

So stay tuned guys, frame swap happening in the near future!

Probably got a vacuum leak somewhere I’ve been having a similar problem I figured I’d just run her into the ground but haven’t killed it yet been going on for 3years now lol

For that light to come on, I think it's 4 or 2 psi. You running a super thin oil or something?

Did you happen to put a hand pressure gauage on to see what your oil pressure is actually doing?

Maybe its just a defective sending unit.

The only toyota engine I seen do this was a camry. Right before it seized up. The engine was full of chunks of burnt oil. I had cleaned the oil section tube but was too late. The diesel engine oil couldn't clean it before crankshaft seize.. :(

That or replace a quart of oil with locus heavy duty oil stabilizer to see if it brings up the pressure.

I would do that on my rigs that leaked a pile of oil out worn seals.

How do you see a vacuum leak affecting oil pressure?

Maybe I am missing something. Engine oil is pushed everywhere via the oil pump.

The vacuum is only in the intake system. The pcv valve system used to be just vented to atmosphere before they recycled back through the intake.

Ring blowby would increase crankcase ventilation.

I am not quite sure how engine vacuum would do with oil pressure.

I’m saying leak some ware in the oil pressure I just assumed that thare must be some kind of vacuum to move oil around and I think thare is something to that because I see oil leaking out of the head gasket so I know it’s still getting oil ware it needs to be but light is on wasn’t meaning the vacuum caused by the motor running or the crank case pressure I’m honestly not sure what the oil pump runs of of but it’s probably possible to run a pump of of the engine vacuum that’s how the fuel pump on my kart works but I digress I’m no expert and I just wanted to share my theory lol
