oil pan 4x4 vs 2wd?

i decided to do my own oil change the other day to come to find out the previous shop that did my oil change stripped the thread on my oil pan. this was right before a trip, which was kind of stressful.

Anyway, my question is this.. is there a difference between a 4x4 oil pan and a 2wd oil pan? i sourced an oil pan off a 2wd for $75 at a local salvage yard.. but i don't have my oil pan off yet to match it up, because my truck is also my daily. Can any1 please chime in?

I have both a 4WD & 2 WD w/ 3.4L engine on both - looks to be the same oil pan on both - hope this helps!

Any 3rd gen 4Runner should have the same oil pan as long as the engine is the same.

Why can't you re-thread it and use a little bigger bolt ? You should go to the shop and complain. That's why I never let anyone change my oil but me.

Don't forget to change the crush washer, I didn't have the space or tools to do it on an out of state trip once so I brought it to a place and gave them the oil I wanted in it, told them the capacity, gave them a filter and a crush washer and specificly asked them to go easy on the drain plug.

Well when the guys comes back to me and hands me the keys and says it's done he hands me the crush washer back.

Um?

Ah it don't need it tech says there was one already.

They aren't reusable. (Used to work for a dealer crush washers are NOT reusable.)

5.5qt capacity there should be a half quart left.

Naw, you said you wanted this oil used so we put it all in for you.

At least they used the filter I gave them and it wasn't double gasketed. Next time when I was home and I had a chance to do my own oil again though, that drain plug was one tough mother. Suprised and thankful it hadn't been stripped.

All 3rd gen V6 oil pans are the same bolt pattern. The sucky part is there's no room to do it the right way.

What I've done and found the quickest way to do it is to remove and quick install right back. The long way I believe is removing front differential and that's just a pain.

Had a mechanic do a rear main and oil pan and he screwed up both. So much for trying to help a friend with a little bit of work and he screwed it up.

So what I did was a quick removal and repaired while it's still high on the hoist. Check your rear main seal while your there. Took me about 5 hours but I did it right.

If you never done it give your self plenty of time and a lot of Tylenol

I never replace my drain bolt washer. It never leaks!! But anyways I would of probably smacked that guy. That is so unprofessional and stupidity at ita finest. Why would fill it with whay you gave him and not the right amount.

No idea man, I was in the back country visiting family it was a podunk place that was recommend to me by family for oil changes, I think because I broke the norm I broke their brain. That or there was a miscommunication as I'm not fully fluent in hick.

Now I consider myself a country feller, I was driving an 84's International tractor and mowing fields before I could reach the pedals in the farm truck to make runs to the feed store, but I don't speak hick. My grandfather does and it is a sight to be held, it's purely unintelligible. Sounds like Boomhauer with a thicker country accent, apparently it's a viable method of communication as it can go back and forth and both parties shake hands and do what needs getting done.

I'm considering re-threading the oil pan. it'd probably be cheaper and easier..

do you or any1 know what size i'd have to re-thread to? what bolt size would i change it to? how hard is this to do? what tools would i need?
