Just got back from a week in Carlsbad..:surfer:. I have never seen so many nice 4runners, trucks and Landcruisers of all generations in one area ! Digging the pre-runner look on a lot of trucks. Its something you dont really see on the East Coast. Now i just got to convince the wife to move out there.....

I'd almost forgotten about this but it was known as a Cali-Lift for a while for a reason! so many "prerunners" out here! Glad you enjoyed your visit!

I live about 25 miles north of Carlsbad (very nice indeed). The ONLY reason I have stayed here is the beach and the weather. Before you move here, I suggest you spend at least one month here and you might have second thoughts.:clap2:

I love Cali but I'm getting ready to move on , it's changed so much and it's way to expensive now. totally glad had the last 30 years here , it's been awesome but all good things get ruined with to many people. Visit and enjoy but I would not recommend moving here without a great job or rich parents.

I live on the Lost Coast. Love it here, born and raised, but to many people have moved here from LA/NY and the population and the attitudes are getting to me.....Looking to move to a less crowded state like Montana.

As others have said, do your homework. There are lots of really good reasons why people move to California... and even more reasons why people move out. I travel there regularly for work (LA, Palm Springs, Colorado Desert, etc.). My company has an office out there in Pomona. I would love to visit and off-road, but I wouldn't live there for any amount of money.

No comprende ? mr minority , can you quote in the "majority" language of Spanish as what does GTFO mean to a Mexican ? Nothing, they want u to GTFO as they were here first ! and are taking CA back without firing a shot , I know CA very,very well . That's the reason I left Seattle and fled back down south (LA), except up there it's like 800k for a fixer-upper condo now... with NO parking. :der:


Cost of living spiraling toward SF levels, shitty weather, and even shittier people were my reasons for leaving the PacNW and putting up with some of the problems SoCal has, unfortunately the grass (literally, just lawns) were the only thing greener there; the rest simply sucked beyond words...unless you're into musty, "protesty" type women who think hair beyond ear length is participating in some patriarchy or whatever they're pissing about nowadays up there on Twatter.


The beaches, mountains, parks (Joshua Tree is among my favorite), palm trees, pools, desert, citrus trees sure make it easier to put up with the leftwing nutbag state .gov

I just got back from a extended stay at Serra Mesa, God I forgot how bad I miss home. My heart will always be in SD. But it has changed, sense I last visited in '03, for one, Petco Park...Awesome!! 2, no longer the Murph for the birth place of " the San Diego Chicken" ( best mascot of all time )!! 3, I miss my home away from home, good 'ol Miramar Lake and fighter town USA, now home of the Marines and the crazy Osprey's.

I tell everyone the reason I buy a lottery ticket every so often is so I can move back to Cali. But I fear it won't be till I'm old enough to play the " over the line tournament" on fiesta island.

I'm going to go cry now

Carlsbad is the next town south of me. Very nice town to be a tourist for a week. Glad you liked it. Much of north county San Diego is like that. Nothing like LA or Inland Empire.

California is expensive and requires an open mind. Upside is that you can make more money here than you can anywhere else (except maybe NYC). Downside is that you have to work hard to get it. 12 hr day/6 day week hard.

I'm 1/2 hour from the beach, an hour to the mountains, an hour to the desert. Every recreational opportunity I could want is within reach. I've surfed in the morning and skied in the afternoon on the same day. I could have very easily spent the night in the desert and wheeled in to Las Vegas via dirt roads the following day.

Traffic sucks really, really hard. I plan my life around it but I think it's worth it and more. Liking early mornings helps. Housing is $$$ but wait it out and you can retire on the value of the house. Prop taxes are cheap once you gut out the first few years of home ownership. If the coastal rat race grinds you down you can move inland and get more of a 49 state experience.

And the weather is terrific.

I never claim to know "all about CA". Honestly, I wouldn't mind living in northern region (a.k.a. the State of Jefferson :evil. Good weather, plenty of water (assuming someone else hasn't already claimed the rainfall in your area), beautiful mountains, and not as many people as the southern area. I spent several weeks inspecting a line in the Sierra Nevadas and it was absolutely gorgeous.

But I've worked there and with people who live there enough to know that all the nanny-state rules aren't for me.

Entire regions drying up because some far-off city government bought all their water (or is just illegally taking it like with the Colorado River). Insane environmental restrictions, and I'm in the "pro-environmental" camp. Totally random gun laws with senseless restrictions (i.e., "bullet button"). Regarding carry permits, some counties are basically "shall issue", others are all but "no issue". :AK47:

So again, I like visiting, but I don't want to stay. GTFO? Done.

Spent all my time between Del Mar and Oceanside, great beaches, waves, food and awesome local beers.:beer:
