OKC in the NBA Finals

I HATE HOWARD SCHULTZ! Born and raised in Seattle and grew up as a big Sonics fan. So mad that our team was taken from us and I put all of the blame on Howard Schultz (Starbucks CEO) and David Stern. Apparently he sold the team to an out of town businessman out of spite. Now OKC is in the Finals and looking good at it too (not like going up against a Jordan-led Bulls team like in '96). Not to mention their best players are all super young. David Stern is just as much to blame as he not only let it happen, but encouraged it. Why? This was a proven NBA market for 40+ years.

I have no ill thoughts to the city of OKC or even their owner Clay Bennett. You guys there seem to be good fans and Clay was doing what everyone knew he was doing. He was finding a team to take to OKC.

Sorry for the rant. Just needed to get this off my chest.

i'm not much of a basketball guy, but this is BS, it's almost like the players of the sonics just didn't want to come out and play for us, i just don't understand what happened in the last year to turn the sonics into a championship caliber team, the whole team had to move pick up their lives and move across the country this year, which personally for the players is probably a stressful time, but yet the managed to go to the finals the very next year after we kick their lazy butts out of the city, yeah we turned our back on the sonics but they turned their backs on us first, you got to get results if you want fans, seattle has some of the greatest fans in the country but the teams have got to show up and play for the fans to show up and cheer, we are one of the most losing sports cities in history, all of our teams in every sport fail, we get close now and again and the fans turn up, then the teams starts losing for the next 3-4 years and everyone gets pissed again...i'm sorry but seattle sports is like that chick that just keeps breaking your heart, you'd love to be there for her but she's just no good for you, sure, i would love to support my teams but they just end up leaving me angry,feeling cheated and like it was all for nothing, and this with the thunder is doubly so, this is like the girlfriend who had tons of problems and issues but was everything you wanted, when you finally kick her to the curb and she miraculously figures it all out and has a new boyfriend who didn't have to deal with all of the crap you did.....
so yeah, F' OK , F' the thunder , F' the players

F' OK for trying to claim what little sports highlights we have here in Seattle as their own...

and finally F' the players for sucking until we kicked them out, a f' them again for figuring it out the very next season....

i wouldn't be half as upset if there was a season or two in-between or some super major trade or draft took place, but it didn't nothing they did in the off season this year besides change zipcodes has significantly altered the team, i really think it's BS.....


that said, i'm glad for OK and happy the fans get to be excited, but seriously keep your filthy little mitts off of kemp,payton and the rest of the sonic history, that belongs to Seattle, and really you don't need it, your doing a pretty good job of creating your own history from the very first season, so, stealing Seattle's is poor form and a really really sleazy thing to do....

yep that's my rant...maybe next time I'll tell you guys what i really think!!
(please acknowledge this as a rant, is not anything against the people from OK personally, this is about sports, not OK people or the way of life in OK, i can separate the OK sports fan from the OK human being even if they are the same person,lol, just like if your best friend supports your teams arch rival, you hate that dude more then anything else for 90 mins but after that you share a beer and it's all good and well, this is where I'm coming from, so please don't get your knickers in a twist, well you can if you want, but hey, that's just you, at that point)

Huge NBA fan I love the Lakers and the Spurs but I would MUCH rather see the thunder win than the Heat. I am as anti LeBron as anybody so it would make me happy to see the young guns beat Prince James and company.

haha ok then, i'm alot less pissed...:lol:.... just seems like yesterday though , man either i'm getting old or times a flying, haha, well then i guess my only beef is over the stealing of the history, they shouldn't be talking about kemp and those guys, beyond that though, in light of new information, i am an idiot and am nothing but happy for the OK fans now ,haha, seriously, ...i guess the Seattle media is just making this out to be something it's not, if that's the case like you said, we in seattle really have no right to be bitter other then the thunder name dropping kemp and crew in their game programs and such...that said, OK deserves anything they achieve this season and good on them.

What is all this last year stuff;the Thunder's first season was 4 years ago ('08-'09 season) and no playoffs the first year,lost to Lakers in the first round and then conference finals the last two years so it wasn't a next year thing as it still was a process of maturing.

I get what you're coming from and there was some shady dealings going on but the end was the residents shoting down a partial public funded arena which will make any team move if another city is giving them what they want and need to be competitive. I see the Mariners are 26th in attendance this year so you marginally only support baseball but thankfully you support your 'Hawks so maybe someday thye'll return the favor with a super Bowl win.

I'm familiar on the recieving end of a championship team with the Avalanche which we aquired from Quebec (the Nordiques) and then literally the first season here we win a Stanley Cup and then another 5 years later so they would get a little more sympathy than Seattle fans.

I see the Mariners are 26th in attendance this year so you marginally only support baseball but thankfully you support your 'Hawks so maybe someday thye'll return the favor with a super Bowl win.

The residents didn't shoot it down, David Stern did. The proposal was to revamp the existing Key Arena and he deemed it unfit for an NBA team because he felt that the luxury boxes weren't up to his standards. He and Clay were in the perfect position. Either the city of Seattle built Clay a brand new facility not funded at all by him or they move to a city where an area was already built. Easy to see why the people wouldn't jump on the idea of building a brand new area when both Safeco Field and Qwest (now the Clink) were pretty new and the Key had gone through a not so recent renovation.

As far as the Mariners, true we are low in attendance, but ever since Safeco opened, our attendance starts out pretty low at the beginning of the year due to it being an open stadium. Especially years like this year where the weather has been less than stellar. You'll see those numbers rise. True, they will probably be around the high teens to low 20's, but considering how lousy the team has been in the past several years, it's still pretty good.

This is a long watch, but I think it's worth it. Especially to people outside of Seattle who have even the slightest curiosity.

Seattle will get a fresh team ala the Browns in Cleveland the next time expansion comes up but yes,it does suck for you but you can still secretly root for OKC since they will win this championship.

The NBA knows they're at capacity now, so any expansion won't happen for a LONG time. The only way we're going to get a team is to take one from another city. Something I obviously am not a fan of. It's actually turned me off of the NBA. Made me more of a college hoops fan as well as more of a hockey fan.

I am a Knicks fan so I hate the Heat because of riley and Lebron. Let's go OKC! I can't even think of seeing Lebron win a championship. The Heat are a bunch of floppers. Can anybody tell me how a foul was not called on Lebron when he slapped Durant on the last play?

Last game the Heat lost, that's all you heard about on TV. The Heat this, the Heat that. Didn't mention anything about OKC beating them, just on how the Heat lost it. Now the Heat won last night and that is all they are talking about. You would never know who was in the Heat was playing in the finals if you don't follow sports.
