Old rods with new pistons?

Question for you motor guys. I am getting my cylinders bored since they are out of tolerance. My question is can I use the old connecting rods with the new pistons. The wrist pin for the old piston is pressed in and the new ones come with clip retainers.

You can, assuming the rod is compatible with the new pistons. But I'd check the rods out thoroughly first.

Check the big end for any black carbon deposits, which could indicate an overheated bearing that was on the verge of spinning. Such high heat can weaken the rod, making it unsuitable to reuse.

Check them dimensionally that they are still the correct big and small end size and length, and that they are still straight, and not twisted at all.

Ideally, have them X-rayed to find any flaws. Or at the very least, have them magnafluxed to find any surface cracks.

Thanks for the reply. The pistons that I ordered also have the pressed in wrist pin. I am used to the floating wrist pins with clips like they have in motorcycles and ATVs. After doing more research, I have decided that the motor shop will press out the old pins and install the new ones with the new pistons. Then i can assemble the motor at home.
