OME springs

I was looking through the arb vehicle application guide for ome suspension, noticed it says you can only use the front springs with OME shocks. Seems like a marketing ploy to get people to buy their struts too, since I've heard people using Billies with Ome springs... Anyone else notice this?

Partially marketing ploy, partially not. OME springs are recommended to be used with their shocks because they made them both. OME knows that their particular combinations of shocks and springs will work fine in conjunction with each other. It's more of an OEM vs. Aftermarket argument. For example, buying a bumper that is OEM will definitely work, as it's made for that application. Aftermarket will work, too, usually, but because Toyota hasn't necessarily tested their product, they wouldn't recommend it over theirs. Toyota is trying to sell THEIR product, too, though, at the same time. That being said, however, most others will work with no problems, but OME just hasn't necessarily done any tests.

Yea, I kept reading that statement on there product when I was shopping. I just ran searches to see if it was a false statement. Needless to say, I didn't by there struts and am pleased with the performance of the setup I have.

Actually, I think it has to do with the fact that OME shocks/struts are longer than stock ones, and that's what you need with the longer OME coils in order to maintain proper up and down travel in the suspension.

If you try to use OME coils with stock shocks, the suspension will "top out" faster. I think the Bilstein 5100s would be my choice though...then you get longer struts AND adjustability at the same time to match the coils, at a lower price.

Few things to consider when it comes to suspension and I'm speaking from my knowledge of tuning dirt bike suspension for the last 10 years.

Shocks are designed to dampen energy in two directions, compression is for bump absorbtion and rebound is for spring energy absorbtion. So the rebound should be matched to the spring and therefore why you would like to run OMEs shocks with OMEs springs. The length of the shock is important too but you can buy the Bilsteins in longer configuration too allow for full travel of the spring. That said chances are the spring rate on OME spring is not that much stiffer than what you find in FJ coils or 4runner coils, maybe 10% to 15% stiffer and should be with in the capablity of the Bilstien shocks but for the best ride I would go OME all the way as it should be design as a matched set.

I have OME springs and shocks which are made to work together. OME does extensive testing and provide a well-designed system. Personally I don't know why you'd consider anything else. I know a few people who have had Bilstiens fail but none who had OME's fail.

Just one guys opinion.

Good choice, give Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters in Utah a call and see how competitive he might be though shipping may be a killer due to distance. If you tell him exactly your needs he may adjust from his standard package though it looks good. Take a look here: Cruiser Outfitters

I ran OME on my Land Cruiser and bought from him for my 4Runner too. He's a helluva guy and will take the time to answer any/all questions.
