Hi all, I just signed up here since i am on the market for a 4runner, preferably a 3rd gen. I have been at Toyota nation and alltrac.net for a while since I have a couple camrys and celicas (love alltracs), but now that 1st baby is on the way, it's time for something bigger/safer! here are some links to a few that i will be checking out...all thoughts are appreciated! I have read every word of Ripcord's buyers guide...but it never hurts to get more input!

97 toyota 4runner 159000 miles

1997 Toyota 4Runner 4x4

1998 Toyota 4Runner w/Tow Pkg

As of right now i am leaning towards the one that is second to last. and the last one i am not so sure about...you know with their clame for a recall and all.....

Here is a 5spd i found....problem is the wife can't drive a manual :cry2:

Just a heads up, I think that 2nd to last one is a scam. It is on CL in my town, Indy, an I've seen it before as well. It may not be, but I think it is. The first and the third don't look too bad. Just check underneath for rust. Plus the 98 has a scoop hood, although the person selling doesn't know the
English language very well. And as for the 5 speed, teach her! That seems like a great deal, original owner with records.

In Minnesota I would think your biggest problem might be finding one without rust.
I would get either a 99' Highlander 4X4 5 Speed and teach her to drive it.
IF you can find one

or get a 2002 Sport Edition.

To me at least those are the two best years and models.

Might also widen your search area WAY down south or even say Arizona or something, a good vehicle for a good price is worth the drive.

Dang, prices are seriously low in Minnesota!

At a quick glance I like the '02. Newest model and it has low miles.

Yea, i guess prices are a bit lower in MN. As far as rust goes, the 4runners i have looked at so far only had minimal suspension rust, which is pretty normal. i was very surprised at how well the frames and other body panels were holding up.
I do prefer the early 3rd gens before the redesign on the front bumper, so i will look for those 1st before i settle for a newer 3rd gen.
Do you guys have any reasons for preferring the newer ones? mechanically, they are pretty much the same right? accept for push button 4x4?
