Either way with all the cars on the road that can be hacked. We are in just as much danger also. Driving down highway and hacked car slams into you from steer assist. They need to figure this out, disconnect these "weapons" from the networks completely.

Very related - Check out the news story on the 6th ave wreck [lakewood, co - happened yesterday].
9news reports today that the passenger, F'ing with the radio, was the cause of the "steer assist" that took out the 4runner.

Perspective for the non-locals: After basically receiving a "pit maneuver", the 4runner barrel-rolled from the highway, across a grass median, through a chainlink fence, across 2 sets of light rail tracks, through another fence and fell down ~15ft where it came to rest.

The less computerized stuff in my automobile, then better. If I need to rely on lane assist, back up cameras, etc., then I need to put down the keys for good.

Agree, nothing deadens my excitement about a vehicle more than to learn that it has software.
Have you noticed that regular cars and trucks didn't need backup cameras until the f**ks that design them took away good visibility?

Um back up cameras are freaking awesome. I used to hate them until I got a car with one. I install them on everything I own. Really handy with a low car so you don't crush the bumper on a curb or the exhaust tips or in tight parking down town, lining a hitch up, backing out of spots when you can't see around the cars beside you. So many uses. Lane assist is a joke but I love my back up cameras.

i'm with you... it's a balancing act. i far prefer the "oh look, the carb fell off again, wash it off with gas and bolt it back on and let's go" approach to the "oh, man, idk, it stopped again, bust out the service manual, the wiring diagrams, the code reader, and the multi-meter" approach.

Self driving cars are a sure thing. For every computer controlled car device that gets hacked, I'd be willing to bet there are 1000's of fatalities as a direct result of driver error. Hell, we've had two driver error accidents on the front page of this sub forum in the last week alone! The sooner self driving cars come out, the sooner I can start "driving" naked to work, while masturbating, eating a can of spam, and playing Call of Duty.
