One wheel not spinning... differential?

Pretty much a neophyte... but I'm hoping to get some ideas as to what my problem is.

I have a 97 4Runner (V6) with 160K... it's been great. Lately (since it's gotten cold out), I've been having a problem.

The problem is that one rear wheel (driver side) does not turn when I apply the gas, usually after shifting from Reverse to Drive (backing out of a parking space).

If I throw it into 4WD, all (3) other wheels turn, but the rear driver's wheel doesn't.

Sometimes, I get a "clunk," then it does start to turn; othertimes it just starts to work.

I read the "clunk" thread, and think I need to either do the lube or get a mechanic to do so... but I haven't seen anyone with the "wheel not turning" symptom.

Is this as simple as low differential fluid? As major as a bad transmission?

Sounds pretty typical mof a stock open diferential. If you need both tires to turn for more traction look in to getting a locker for it. You can go with a cheap full time locker of you offroad a lot, but a better option is an ARB air locker or a used elocker.
