[Never Settle] OnePlus found to be collecting massive amounts of personally identifiable analytics data from phone owners

“some of the data being sent to OnePlus' servers included the phone's IMEI number, the phone number, MAC addresses, mobile network names and IMSI prefixes, Wi-Fi connection info, and the phone's serial number. And if you thought that was bad, he later found that the data included every time an app was opened.”

Remember this next time you think a phone from a Chinese maker looks sooooo good for soooo cheap.

I'm certainly not one to dismiss 'big brother' especially when it comes to things made in China but honestly most folks are so dense these days...I'm not sure it really matters. I'm amazed at the number of open Wi-Fi networks and the like as well as the willingness to perform sensitive transactions (banking, etc.) on public Wi-Fi. I could spend 20 minutes in my neighborhood and have enough info to retire on if I chose to. I work for a company that nobody probably knows but we interact with and process data for almost every carrier on the planet. Guess what...we have your data and it's a lot more than your IMEI #. People need to start doing their homework and being accountable for themselves.
