I'm a well documented Toyota fan boy and always loved the Yota/ Jeep rivalry. But this is just pathetic.

2014 Jeep came in the shop today, and to top it off it's the Freedom edition, meaning all sorts of fancy badging representing 'Merica including a military star on the hood

And even American flag taillight covers

It was bad enough that at 76K miles it already needed a power steering pump... But when we got the new unit directly from the Chrysler dealership the tag was the final icing:

Yes that's right. This fine American Proud automobile with all its rich and lush glory and tradition uses brand new factory parts made in Thailand.

At least with a 4Runner we know almost everything is from the same country.

Ironic? I don't know. But at the very least it's hilarious.

Oh abso-LUTE-ly. If I'm not mistaken, Chrysler, or part of it was purchased by Mercedes. I had the luxury of opening up a Charger's trans pan and it had all kinds of emblems and resemblance of Zee Jurrmans.

I just found this whole thing to be outrageously ironic, especially with the 4th of July right around the corner. I'm not naive, rather observant to humor.

I'm sure 99% of the products in my household are stamped China/Thailand etc and work just fine. No dig on them necessarily, just hilarious how this particular vehicle is plastered with in-your-face 'MERICA! and then it's guts don't support America at all.

Kudos to Chrylser's marketing.

Diamler got the short end of the stick on that merger and they couldn't even give Chrysler away to get themselves out of that mess. Mercedes may not be the pinnacle of reliability, but somehow Chrysler managed to take their parts and make them worse than when installed on a Mercedes. I am always amazed how Chrysler can managed to **** things up more than they need to already be.

Also I find it sort of funny that the American flag is one of the only flags where people are okay with it being constantly mis-represented. That flag has 32 stars and 11 or maybe 12 stripes? It's funny how often the American flag is just totally mis-represented , while most other countries go through great lengths to make sure their flags are consistently represented.

Also, while I think the whole military star is a bit over played; I kind of like the weathered look that one has. But I wouldn't run it on my vehicle.

Hi, I live 20 minutes from Chryslers HQ. Many people around here have no idea that Chrysler is owned by Fiat. Most also don't know that they sell crap in shiny, attractive package. Tacky, tacky.

Three buddies have newer Wranglers.

All three are late models, MN4runnerman said it, last year to have was 2006 (2004 even better). Did the windshield fold forward?

The Jeep Division is so popular it practically prints money. Jeep probably pays the bills for most of Chrysler. Not saying they are reliable.

Right I was going to say Job Security. Horrible resale and reliability so after the 5th trip on their vehicle the dealership convinces them into a new vehicle and it wont have any problems.........its a horrible circle.

We Lemon Law'd a 2014 Cherokee Trailhawk. It's how we ended up with the 4runner. Very happy now.

I've had a '99, '05, and recently a '17 Wrangler (replaced a truck I didn't use, NOT the 4R!). They are their own vehicle. They're fun and capable vehicles. Maybe I'm weird, but I actually like that they are noisy, ride rough, and have relatively unrefined road manners. If only Toyoa still made a direct competitor...
