Opinions on Roof Racks

Just curious as to what everyone's favorite roof rack is. Looking to get one for my 07 SR5.

I really just want to mount a light bar on it and don't need anything extensive.. And looking to stay within a few hundred $'s.

Any thoughts?

I have the Yakima Megawarrior with the extensions and I like it. I had it on my Subaru so it was a simple switch when I bought my 4Runner.

2 avenues to explore:


1.- Fit on top if your existing rack: Yakima load warrior ($250) Rola Vertex ($150 or Bajarack MegaMule ($425)

2.- Replace your existing rack: BajaRack ($750), Gobi ($1200) or Whitson ($600). Figure Approx $150-250 shipping for BajaRack or Whitson

Both have advantages. Depends how you really intend to use the vehicle long term.

I have the full BajaRack and use a IronMan awning on one side, BajaRack Sceptor fuel can mounts and put our totes of extra gear up there as needed for trips. It works excellent for our use.

I'd do research on them first and see how they are in terms of wind noise. Most racks create a lot of noise and decrease in fuel economy. I ran one on my Jeep once and won't ever do it again. Some are worse than others, and some have optional pieces you can buy to help cut down the noise and drag. But just look into that so there won't be any surprises.

I have the Whitson Metal Works rack and gas mileage didn't change any noticeable amount after install.... It's low profile and wind noise is not bad under 70mph but goes up significantly after that..... I plan to make a faring at some point in the future and understand it cuts wind noise to virtually nothing....
