Opinions: Powdercoated FJC wheels on my 4Runner

Well, this will come as no surprise to many of you, but I've had no luck tracking down a set of gunmetal Sequoia wheels locally. :shrug:

My second choice would be some 17" FJ Cruiser wheels, and I found a unique set for sale, but I just can't decide if they will go well with my truck or not. With the silver paint and grey cladding, I don't want it to look like I'm going for a "50 Shades of Grey" theme (as my wife so humorously put it.) :doh:

I don't have a good side view pic of my 4Runner on my Photobucket, so I borrowed one from the lift and tire pics thread (photo credit to Tego.) This is exactly what my 4Runner looks like, except my SE wheels are trashed from the PO:

The wheels in question are coated a "tricolor gunmetal" using a mix of silver, dark grey, and black, along with a coat of clear:

If I buy these, they will be wearing 265/70/17s and mounted on my truck as soon as I choose a tire, and install my Daystar 2.5/1.5 lift.

What do you all think?

They look like great rims. I would go for it

If you are keeping it as a street ride, I'd powder coat them to color desired.

If you plan on off roadding, just paint or leave stock color, they will be get chipped and banged up.

Some good looking rims, and if you end up deciding that particular shade of grey doesn't match the rest of your car, you can always sand + paint or even Plasti-dip.

Yeah, I was thinking that I could always re-coat them or plastidip them if I didn't like the color in person. Realistically, my 4Runner will probably only see some light off-road duty, like mild fire roads to trailheads, and occasional trips through mostly grassy fields on my wife's family's farm. That might be different if we ever move to NC, but for now, there aren't many places near me to go wheeling. That's why I'm not going with a bigger lift/tire combo. Honestly, I think the biggest risk of damage would be my wife giving them some slight curb rash when parallel parking. Maybe I haven't given enough thought to a higher lift... gotta clear those pesky curbs! :tape:

For now, I'm waiting on a shipping quote on these, so if that doesn't break the bank too much, I will go ahead and pick them up. I just got home a little while ago in my wagon, and took my laptop outside and sat next to the 4runner and compared. The more I look at them the more I like them just the way they are, so I am hopeful that the shipping cost works out in my favor.

Well, I decided to pass on these. They would look great, but I'm planning to put my spare into the rotation pattern when I buy new tires. Shipping costs on these were already stretching my budget, so getting another wheel and powdercoating it to match isn't in the cards.

I will be keeping my eye out for a complete set of 5 of these wheels, hopefully in top condition, and close enough to pick up locally.
