Opinions Welcome - 05 vs. 00

Last Thursday my 05 Sport Edition (V8) was stolen from my driveway. Since we are in the market for a replacement T4R - we are considering a replacement 05 Limited (V8) and a 2000 model Limited (V6). I am not at all familiar with the V6 in the 2000 model and would like some opinions pro/con of the V6 in the 2000 and the V8 in the 05 from a performance and reliability standpoint.

I've had both a 97 and now an 03. Performance it's no comparison on road, the 4th gen is much better. Off road the 3rd gen is better in stock form. Reliability should be great with either. I had over 200K on my 97, at 160K on my 03, no major issues with either. After owning both, I'd go with the 4th gen without any doubt for daily driving. I'd consider the 3rd gen for purely if road use, but the 4th gen can become very capable here with a few minor mods.

Thanks a lot for your input; the truck is for my wife and it is her DD. She is leaning toward a 4th gen Ltd. but sure loves the look of the 3rd gen. Thanks again for your experience.

In that case I would definitely go with the 4th gen. It has so much more power and better handling than the third gen which makes it a much better daily driver. It just seems more refined in every way for on road. The 3rd gen v6 might get marginally better gas mileage, but not enough to be a deciding factor.

Wow sorry to hear that, hope they find the morons that stole your truck...

I'd go with the 05. If you have the chance to get something newer, it's better to go that route to get the "most" for your money. I know this can be debated upon and I can understand both sides, but unless you're doing some heavy wheeling, I personally would rather get a newer vehicle. If you are looking to play more than anything, then the 2000 may not be a bad bet.

I suppose it all comes down to what you need it for. If it's your everyday truck, go with the 05.
