Overland Expo

Anyone been to Overland Expo, East or West? I would love to go to the one in the East this year. What could i expect from an event like this? I'd be traveling from Houston, Texas, and it's in Asheville. It would take two days of driving, plus the event, so almost a week. Worth the trip?

I've been to all but last year's Overland Expo West, having instructed at the event each time.

If you're planning to take the trip, I'd suggest getting the experience package that gives you access to all the classes and driving instruction. The presenters and trainers have amazing amounts of experience, and many times have shaped off road driving to what it is today. (The Camel Trophy crew comes to mind, as well as others.)

You'll find a vast array of vendors, from the big auto manufacturers like Jeep and Land Rover, to outfitters such as Adventure Trailers, Sportsmobile and Equipt, along with thousands of enthusiasts who themselves have travelled the world. It's a great group of folks to hang around with for a few days!

I'd love to go since both East and West fall on my long change from work, but I get off Thursday evening both weeks, and the drive times kill me.

I would be down for attending the East event. Although I feel the west one is more involved/done up compared to the East.

I've never driven that far north east. I've driven 15 hours west, out to Colorado, so the drive distance and time is doable. As it gets closer, i'll have to remember that you're in Houston area too and see if you want to follow.
