What is everyone carrying in there 4Runner or on there 4Runner for a Camp / Recovery Shovel . Full Size- Compact - Etool ?

For my easy outings on forest roads and BLM lands I have a choice of old surplus "jeep" shovels, crowbar, axe etc.
I am not interested in road building but know maybe moving some dirt or rocks can help prevent getting stuck.

I have 2 military entrenching tools. If I have someone with me, they can help too.
Once when I was caught in the snow, I didn't have anything to dig the snow out but I did have a fold up chair. I used the chair back rest as a shovel, it work quite well but not as good as a real shovel.
As I said above, now I carry 2.

I have a bond mini shovel . get one with a D handle. the bond doesn't collapse but it stores nicely in the rear cargo area against the side wall. I modified by rear cargo area but even stock you should be able to snuck it up and secure it near the tool bag opening or the other side.
I actually have never had to use it. but I didn't bother removing it after my last offroad trip, I still have my tow and kinetic straps in the back. dont' take up a lot of room but might come in handy during the winter

Start of winter: add in a two piece avalanche shovel for unplanned emergencies around town.
Last weekend we took three shovels. Large grain scoop shovel for soft drifts, long handled and metal flat blade for hard pack, and the avy shovel.
Never cease to be amazed at how good these 4Runners are in deep snow compared to every other rig I've been in over the years.
Start of winter: add in a two piece avalanche shovel for unplanned emergencies around town.
Last weekend we took three shovels. Large grain scoop shovel for soft drifts, long handled and metal flat blade for hard pack, and the avy shovel.
Never cease to be amazed at how good these 4Runners are in deep snow compared to every other rig I've been in over the years.

I carry an avalanche shovel too. I figure if the ground is too hard to dig with an aluminum avy shovel, I've probably got traction anyway. These are light and the handle telescopes/comes off, so I can put it in my tool bag. In winter it's usually on my backpack already.

I paid US$30 for my shovel. you can maybe find a compact foldable one for cheaper but it will not be as sturdy. it's really a mini gardening shovel that I just used for offroading so it didn't come with the overland markup
