Paint job with stock silver rim tires?

Okay so basically I looked at my 4R today, and I thought the white paint was somewhat lacking clarity. There are a bunch of small spots of grease smudges where it's black, and it won't come off the 4R after a solid wash session. They're mostly located in the back. So because of that, I'm starting to consider having my local dealership add a clear coat of white paint. However, I came across a fellow T4R's thread (link / picture below) where he showed off the 4R aka the "Snd Trp". I've never seen anything sexier than the 4R he had. Basically I was wondering if anyone had a white 4R with black fenders + stock silver rims along with stock head lights and a stock backbumper (Javelin's 4R has blacked out headlights) to show me so I can see how it would look like on my 4R. I wish I could get the same set up as this dude Javelin's, but unfortunately I don't have time for mods like that :'(

First off: you have a white 4R and have black spots on it from grease? If so, clean it off. Use a solvent if necessary. Normal soap and water might not take off the grease or asphalt sealant that they use on some roads. Some extra work might be required.

Second: "the white paint was somewhat lacking clarity" - what does this even mean?

Lastly: "...I'm starting to consider having my local dealership add a clear coat of white paint" - Why? To fix the "clarity issue" with Also, a clear coat is named what it is for a reason: because it is clear, not white. If your truck is dirty, painting over it isn't going to fix things.

Get a claybar kit, use it, report back.

I concur. Use a claybar or polish and it'll most likely work for what you're seeing.

it lacks clarity since toyota natural white and super white have no clear coat.

You're better off just trying to have the truck buffed out and waxed, but without clearcoat once the wax/sealant wears off the paint will look hazy. I had my white Tundra buffed out a few times and it would look great for a few months and then back to hazy paint.

Dude when i had my roof done i had the shop compound the truck as well. Let me tell u it made a world of a difference i was surprised and so was everyone else. my paint was faded out bad. no gloss whatsoever just about..:lookout:

@Gn86r's response is pretty much the explanation I was looking for. I should have phrased my question a little bit better using words i.e. "faded", "hazy", rather than using general words i.e. clarity.


I haven't had time to pick a weekend and use the claybar kit on my 4R. I've been busy since spring break ended. I will report back one day!!
