Paint peeling on 03 Sport

Are the gray plastic body panels on a 03 Sport painted or is the plastic molded in that color? The reason I ask is that the passenger molding directly behind the front bumper is peeling...

If you bought it from the dealership, I wouldn't even hesitate to go up there. My '03 has thegray cladding, so I don't know the process for making them body color, but I know they shouldn't be peeling.

They are not painted but are molded gray. Some pieces of plastic trim on cars sometimes has a clear coating over it and that what looks like it's peeling on yours. On my dodge I had a similar thing happed to a black plastic trim piece on the bumper, but it's so far out of warranty and its in an unnoticable spot I never reparied it.

I suspected that the color was molded into the plastic... My current theory is that somewhere in the Toyota delivery chain (port of entry, Dealership #1, Dealership #2 - It was a dealer transfer sale) someone tried to "paint-over" some damage to that panel.. If you look closely at the picture, you can see evidence of overspray.

I have the same cladding. They should definitely not be peeling. Mine just get scratched easily, but they are not peeling!

I think that would very clearly be covered under your 3yr bumper to bumper warranty.
That is defective workmanship or manufacture. A free replacement is in order there...the overspray tells the story it seems.

I would take it back to the dealer. Spyder, molting into what???? Hmmm wonder if it will have wings.
