Seeing your post today makes me want the Thicket today. A drive from DC is probably out of the question however.

Check the grounds. All grounds for the dimming problem. But it is a Mexican Optima correct?

I'd say if the starter contacts have been replaced at some point since it rolled off the ship, then the hard starting may be the fuel pump.

Finally got around to monkeying around with the truck today. Turns out it is a Mexican Optima (what are the downsides to this, besides the obvious dimming issue). I did go back and re-ground all my amp and cap grounds and things seem to have gotten better. I think the biggest thing giving me trouble now may just be the battery. Gonna do some research on the Mexican Optimas but curious to hear your input.

My buddy's brother used to be a manager/assistant manager of an Advanced Auto outside of Aiken. He said they used to move them out the store quite often for all the diesel trucks that would pull the horse trailers (Aiken is horse country in SC) and never saw one returned until they began being made in Mexico, where they then saw usually up to ten a month being returned due to either being overcharged or dead, and not being able to be charged back up.

I never found out if there was a common reason for their failure, other than the quality control for manufacturing in Mexico was sub par at best.

Palmetto Runner: Did you ever get around to installing your lift? As many others have already commented, your truck is SUPER clean! I'm just about to pull the trigger on parts to achieve a modest lift on my own 2000 Limited 4x4, and getting to see yours all done would be awesome...Definitely really like the Tundra wheels and blacked out emblems/badges. Super nice.

nice looking rig. i was just like you for a while. keep it kleen, waxed, and polished, especially my 2wd. until you accidentally get the clay on it which is tricky as hell to get off, then you'll say whatever and actually take it on trails and trust me, sc's got some great trails.:keyboard::spit::thumb:
