It strikes me as a waste, too. The misguided, taxpayer-funded, warped-agenda-driven, 'Cash For Clunkers' program was a far bigger debacle in that regard, though.

I watched this a while ago.. Made me miss my first 4x4 and the fun N' trouble I had in it.. I've had 4 pathys 88, 91, 94, 97 and 5 4runners 90, 98, 99, currents 98 and 02 limiteds.. My first and favorite pathfinder was an 88se I had in high school. tough as nails and wheeled really well for a stocker with the torsion bars cranked, sway bars off, cut sheet metal and 33s .. Bought it as a used Washington Forestry vehicle with 210k for 2k. Ran it until almost 400k for 6 more years between Oregon and Missouri. Besides the common stuck adventures with any offroad enthusiast, it never once failed me or left me stranded..

Ah yes, Cash for Clunkers. The majority of vehicles destroyed from that bull program were far from clunkers. I actually remember walking past a local Suzuki dealer when that program was going on and seeing them seize up an old Pathfinder.

Yeah, I mean it was a fun summer and who can complain about gettin' paid to glass engines and blow cars up.

But we had some '00+ Toyota trucks and SUVs that were "Clunkers" which was just sad...

Sold my pathfinder to buy my 4runner. 94, same body style. Got it for $900 and 50k miles later the only money I spent on it was a stereo and oil changes. Hydro locked it, let it sit for an hour without pulling plugs and if started right up. Jumped it more times than I can count, and it took me back and forth to my place at lake Pillsbury on a rutted out washboard dirt road and rode better on blown shocks than my 4runner does now. I miss it, sold it to my friend for $1000 he got it stuck the first week, hillbillys vandalized it within an hour and looted it. He fixed the glass, hydro locked it last week, let it sit for an hour and drove her home. I hope he gives it back to me, its essentially the top gear Toyota of my personal life.
