I'm actually very surprised, NGK coils would be my second choice if I can't find a Denso or OEM. Oscilloscopes are going to be very valuable tools as these vehicles get older and older.

Ivan is the man if you have an electronic control problem, or any electrical problem on your vehicle. I have watched several of his videos, I usually don't fully understand what he's doing, but it's interesting to see him track down these problems. I would probably buy NGK coils if I couldn't get Denso for some reason, if they can make excellent spark plugs, they should be able to make excellent coils, s**t happens though.

I'm guessing this is a problem because there's no separate Igniter (ICM) and the coils are driven directly from the ECU?

According to Ivan, 2 wire coils have a pulse driver inside the ecu and 3 or 4 wire coils have the pulse driver inside the coil pack.

I have learned a LOT about proper diagnostics from Ivan! He has an extraordinary ability to do proper scientific reasoning!

I am glad I bought all OEM coils (from the dealer) for my 4runner!

That's a good yours are densos. We can not substitute the sensors, coils or any electronics for that matter... I tried to warn people for years. This just confirms it not worth it. ECM modules baking is something we don't want to see. I hope my NGK Coils wires will be alright..:O Granted, they been on there for past 5 years now. However, they will not spike anything. They would just break down and go out of resistance spec.. :-D
