Pat's racks!!My full length rack build.

After searching and reading about the roof rack manufacturers taking forever to to get the job done I made mine. I want to thank a couple guys on this forum for their threads. HELOTESTXTRD and Jankrunner. I've been welding and fabricating stuff for 20+years. I was being lazy wanting to buy one that was FINISHED but waiting for 6 months is a bit ridiculous.

Well here it is! I named it Pat's Racks!

Looks great, nice job! One comment, looks like the mounting brackets are completely vertical. I'm not sure if resistance to lateral load or shear moment would be less than the angled brackets found on others. Regardless, must be satisfying to build vs buy. Now you can start selling it, get inundated with orders, have a 18 month delay and never talk to us again. I kid, I kid. ;)

To tell you the truth I really don't care what Gobi thinks. I was looking at buying one of there racks but after reading about their customer service and their wait times they can put it where the sun doesn't shine and lets not talk about their B.S. lawsuits.

I don't think they could sue you over making your own rack and probably wouldn't be worth their time if you made a few for friends. If you went at it full time, then they break out the legal garbage like they supposedly did to drabbits.

Its only a matter of time before they can no longer hide behind Johnny law and then they'll be screwed when they actually have to compete with better run, more efficient businesses. They really need to invest in automation and "just in time" construction methods. Otherwise they'll be bell up 6 mths to a year after their patents run out.

If I had half your skills, I would have made my own and told them to go "screw" as well, but I don't... so I fed the pig.

Hey man, we're not trying to be jerks, just trying to look out for a fellow board member and don't want to see you get screwed. CYA and check with your lawyer before shit hits the fan. Perhaps there's a loophole that you can get around with and Supply an equal or Superior product without the wait times that Gobi does.

What thickness material did you use? Steel or aluminum? Any idea what it weighs?

Thinking about making my own as well, just curious about pipe wall thickness, and how much weight I'm going to be looking at.
