Pelfreybilt Bumper Owners

I was working to install my Baja S8 30” light in the front mounting point yesterday. Only to find out that there was a sheet metal support beam in the way. Was wondering what others have done to get clearance to mount the light. Here is a shot of the beam I’m talking about (this is looking down into the bumper and the beam is right behind the light):

I’m hoping this isn’t a 2010-2013 specific part since my truck is a 2012. Any insight would be awesome!

So I took a look at the service manual and found out the part is called the Upper Center Front Bumper Retainer. Pictured here:

I’m guessing it’s safe to remove but would love to hear thoughts on that.

i removed something similar in my 2017 to accommodate my bumper.
Your headlights should each have 1 screw into it?

Yeah the more I think of it I think it's a 2010-2013 specific part because of the OEM front bumper design. The newer OEM bumpers only have a vent there while the older bumper their tops hung from that piece.

I just want to make sure it isn't structural in any way. It's a super thin piece of sheetmetal.

The headlight assemblies get pretty wobbly without it.

Hmmm...are you sure? The headlights don't attach to it. Do they support the underlying structure that the headlights bolt onto?
Headlights bolt to it on mine. 2017 TRD OR. Maybe they changed styling?

If you’re talking about item #17 In this diagram it’s different.

I think the diagram above confirms that the part that is blocking me from installing a center light is in fact a 2010-2013 specific item that was used to hang the front bumper off of. The question is if it's safe to run without it. Only one way to find out......

Yea, #17 in that picture bolts to the headlight assemblies on mine and keeps them steady.

I ended up taking the piece out as it wasn’t supporting anything. However, you’re right I need to purchase #17 to support the headlights a bit better. It’s a piece I didn’t get when I did my retrofit. Will do that next!

Happy that I finally mounted my Baja S8:
