People Who have Done the Manual Swap.. Help

I put everything back together last night on my 4runner. I was under the impression there would be a 1" difference in rear drive shaft length. The rear driveshaft is stretched out 2". The front driveshaft has been replaced with the donor but it ended up almost being the same length as my original. The manual trans mount looks like its being streeetched just stay on the crossmember.

I got the trans from a 99 tacoma. I'm wondering if thats it? So I guess my question is.. why are my results different from everyone else's?

It's the strangest thing because last night when I drove around for probably 10 minutes, everything seemed completely fine.
 
There is no difference in the transmissions between a tacoma and 4runner. Do you have it on jacks or lifted up? You won't get the true distance until it is on the tires with the full weight. I used my original auto front driveshaft and put on the manual one from the donor. It should only be an inch difference with the auto driveshaft and there is enough play in the spline to take care of it temporarily. What are you using to measure the distance?
 
After thinking about it for a bit I would also replace the transmission mount for a new 4runner one. I am assuming the one you have came with the tacoma transmission? Toyota in general will not change any of the major components (like engine or transmission) from model to model, but will change the hardware that attaches to it (mounts and driveshafts). This is why I recommend anyone who wants to do the swap to get a donor vehicle with all of the 4runner parts on it. Otherwise you need to do what you are doing which is to figure out each step. Glad you got it running, you have been very patient

Ok so I have a brand new transmission mount on it. In order to get the 4 bolts to line up on the bottom of the mount I actually had to take my little on board jack and push the tranny forward a bit sliding jack between rear cross member and the transfer case. It's on the ground with everything together. I drove it around again which I know I shouldn't be. I just measured where the driveshaft is clean now being stretched out and its 2 inches. I wonder if maybe if was just compressed a bit from the auto? I'm at a loss.

Aren't the holes in the crossmember off-center fore-aft? Is your crossmember flipped around the wrong way?

Yup- holes are offset about 1/2".

Flipping the crossmember would definitely shove your trans forward hard.
