Hello,
Been a long while since I posted anything here, but am wondering if anyone can offer perspective as to why I am having an issue with a power splice I rigged to charge my DroidX phone while sitting in the cradle I setup on the center console in my '06 4Runner Sport.
Should have been straight forward. I removed center console (around shifter) and spliced into the leads for the OEM 12v socket next to shifter under hidden under spring door. I wired a cheap female 12v socket obtained from store and tested w/volt meter which shows 12v as it should. I then simply inserted Verizon charger with usb end threaded up under console to cradle and plug in phone. Although Charger LED lights up and phone shows charge indicator when plugged in (i.e. little lightning bolt Icon), the phone will in fact lose charge while used in car. Yet when phone sits in AC cradle in office/house, it charges fine.
Odd. I have two Droids (different models) and both have same symptom. I also have tried different female 12v socket as well as different car charger for phone. ANd finally the charger I am using charges the phone fine whilest plugged directly into the OEN 12v socket. Not sure why it would fail to charge when volt meter reads 12V.
Any clues or posts some might link me into?
