Perplexing sunroof problem...rear portion seems lower.

So lately, we have been noticing a lot of wind noise from the sunroof. So I push up on the rear part while driving, and the wind noise goes away. I noticed that the rear portion of the sunroof is sunken in below the roofline by about 6-7 mm. That, I believe is the problem. The rubber seal is pretty level except for the rear and the rear portion of the sides. I just don't see what is broken or what needs to be done. I bet it would leak in the rain now too.

It opens and closes just fine but may be a bit loud while doing it. Do you guys have any thoughts on what this could be or how to troubleshoot further?

try just tapping the switch to reposition the window to the closed position as for me I never use it because you have to get just right to be closed.

i did this to fix my sunroof problem, sounds to be similar

Mine is doing what was described by the OP. Tonight, had the roof open and it started raining. Went to close it, and it moved back and forth about 2 inches or so with each attempt. I was lucky and found a bank to pull in to get some cover. Started googling the issue. If you have this problem, hold the close button down for 15 seconds and it close.

My wallet isn't lighter......yet.

I suspect I need to lube it up.

Tapping the Close button fixed the issue. A Tech told me to hold down the Tilt Up button (same as Close, I believe) for it to "relearn" as it goes through the cycles. I will try that, and also relube it...probably white lithium grease. Thanks guys!

Not a huge fan of the sunroof mechanism they used in these 4Runners.

In my old VW, it was a cool setup with a dial. You could turn the dial and it would open to the percent on the dial. Or, you could just turn it to closed, and it would close to just the exact right spot.

It seems the sunroof in our 4Runners, you have to hold the button until the sunroof is 'just right'.

Even then the thing is a rattletrap.

I just keep it closed. I hear they break quite often as well. Fair warning.

Okay, I will try to clean it, grease it (maybe per the TSB), and then use it sparingly. I am not up for a $2,500 sunroof repair bill.ray:
