Personal trans preference?

which do yo uguys perfer? at or manual? im just looking into buying a 4runner and i see a lot of old automatic transmissions and i was just wondering if its as good as they make it out to be?

my 93's AT went out at about 109k miles. a local transmission shop rebuilt it to the tune of about $2200. kinda costly but my 4runner has low miles and is in excellent overall shape so it was worth it to me.

one thing i wish i would have them done at the time of the rebuild is replace the oil seal on the rear of the motor right in front of the transmission's bell housing. mine started leaking right after the rebuild and the only way to replace it is to drop the transmission. i guess i'll have to live with putting in a half quart every other week or so.

I like my auto, but I usually prefer a manual for most of my other vehicles. The auto is nice while towing or on long trips. 5-speeds are nice for being able to pick the gear to be in at the moment, and are a little easier on fuel consumption.
