Plasti Dip Rear Emblem Overlay Kit

I can't decide if I prefer the black emblem look or gray emblem look for the rear logo.
I recall someone here plastidipped their emblem covers gray...

Question is this; Will the paint job benefit from elevating the emblem covers while spraying (such as posting on a dowel and tack) OR just spray them while they're laid out on a surface.

Not very experienced with the plastidip paints.

The great thing about plasti-dip is that it's not permanent. It peels off rather easily as long as the coating is thick enough. Just go buy your overlay kit and some plasti-dip and get to spraying. You can't really mess it up, since you can just peel it off and try again. That being said, I sprayed my front emblem while it sat at the bottom of a box, so I didn't have to worry about overspray getting on my kitchen table and it looks great. Just hit it from a few angles to get all the sides of the emblems.

Either way should be okay as long as you can easily access all angles like Storm_Runner mentioned.

I think a key point is to spray several lighter coats. I sprayed my wheels with plasti-dip several years ago, and I think I ended up with 4-6 coats with each coat just enough to fully cover surface. Many car washes, Michigan winters, off-roading and other boondogles later and they still look as good as day one.

I also recently peeled a small section off under one of the lugs and it was very peel-able, so you can easily reverse (even after years).

EDIT: The other (and most important) part is to make sure the emblems are very clean before spraying!

I actually used the gray

I actually dipped the rear emblems gray to match the front grill

So now it's gray 4runner on black background similar to the "toyota" on the black . It turned out awesome.
