Plastidip custom badge

I ordered one of the custom badges from Toyota. I want to Plastidip it black (this will be my first Plastidip effort). The badge comes with wax paper on the back protecting the adhesive, and tape on the front which positions the letters. The normal application process is to remove the wax paper, position the badge on the vehicle, and then remove the position tape. Of course, I can't spray the Plastidip with the tape covering the letters. So I think my options are to remove the tape, apply the Plastidip and then attempt to line-up the individual letters or to re-apply some tape so I can apply them in position (which would be easier).

So my question is, if I apply tape over the Plastidip, will it pull the plastidip off?

Or, if somebody has an a better solution I'm missing, let me know.

Heres a better solution.

Scuff the emblem up good with this

Spray with a few coats of primer.

Goto the store and pick out your favorite color of flat paint. Id recommend just using the dupli-color "perfect match".

Goto your local auto paint supply, pick up a can of this.

Now spray a few coats of paint, then the clear..

Let it sit for 24hrs.

Put it on your truck and have yourself a quality finished product.

Take your can of plasti-dip.. Go for a fun walk in the park, and see how far you can throw it in a pond.

What kind of badge? If it is a lettering badge that goes on the sheetmetal, I would just put it on, tape off a section around it, and then plastidip it like the directions call for. If it is a toyota symbol, I took mine off, scuffed it and painted it with rustoleum gloss and clearcoat. Didn't like the flat look.

^ agreed with apply it to the vehicle then tape it off. You can just tape paper all around it. Also, don't get skimpy on the plasti-dip. You're going to want 6-7 coats. Even though 2-3 coats LOOKS done, it's not. 6-7.

It's the personalized badge you can get here: Get a personalized badge for your Toyota.

Masking around it won't be super easy, but if tape on the surface would pull off the Plastidip, that's probably the best option.

just apply your badge and spray away... Mask off as much as possible. clean up works well with a toothpick. rub what you can off with your finger and then get the cracks and corners with a toothpick... good luck
